DPH, broken down and described

image

Dosage:

Threshold : 10 - 150 mg
Light : 150 - 300 mg
Common : 250 - 500 mg
Strong : 450 - 700 mg
Heavy : 650 - 1000 mg

Duration:

Onset : 60 - 120 mins
Duration : 6 - 8 hours
After effects : up to 12 hrs

DPH (Diphenhydramine) is a legal and freely available over the counter first-generation antihistamine possessing anticholinergic and sedative properties. It was one of the first known antihistamines, invented in 1943 by Dr. George Rieveschl and usually sold under the brand name of “benadryl”. This substance is available in many forms of generic or store brand medication which are mainly used to treat allergies or as a general sleep aid. When taken in “recreational” doses however, DPH becomes a notorious and extremely powerful deliriant.

Diphenhydramine is classed as an anticholinergic which is functionally similar to tropane alkaloids found within Datura stramonium and other plants in the nightshade family. This substance works via its antagonistic action on acetylcholine receptors. It’s this inhibition of acetylcholine which leads to delirium, sedation and intensely realistic hallucinations along side of some extremely uncomfortable and dysphoric physical side effects.

DPH and other deliriant hallucinogens are generally considered as both physically and psychologically unsafe by the online psychonautic community. This is further backed up by the consistent way in which almost everybody who tries this substance immediately regrets the experience.

Although we strongly discourage ever trying such a drug, the experience itself can be fascinating in itself and worthy of scientific documentation none the less.

In terms of it’s subjective effects, the DPH has a dosage scale unlike anything found within psychedelics or dissociatives. It is not like other drugs in sense of dosage, as a light dose does not equal a light trip. Doses under 300mg induce more of a restless feeling, body high, and muscle relaxation. Doses typically 600mg+ are what make the user enter delirium and begin to see fully formed hallucinations.

Anything in between these two extremes is often a disappointing and uncomfortable experience, characterized with twitching and only very minor hallucinations, mostly in the peripheral vision.

The DPH experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe…

Physical effects:

The physical effects of DPH are usually described as extremely uncomfortable. They can be broken down into nine components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:

  • Increased bodily weight - The first noticeable sensation is that of having an extremely heavy body, as if the gravity has been multiplied by a thousand. This makes it extremely difficult and uncomfortable to move.
  • Spontaneous tactile sensations - Users commonly report all-encompassing, sharp and extremely painful jolts of electricity that spontaneously manifest themselves in a similar rhythm to hiccups.
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Abnormal heart beat
  • Frequent urination
  • Difficulty urinating - This can be described as a feeling of concrete blocking your urethra and painfully conflicts with a frequent need to urinate.

The physical effects of DPH and other deliriants are thought to occur when the concentration of acetylcholine in the vagus nerve decreases due to acetylcholine inhibition, leading to the commonly experienced physical dysphoria.

The levels of dysphoria experienced, however, vary between people with a very small percentage of users reporting that they do not seem to experience them at all.

Cognitive effects:

The head space of DPH is described by many as generally negative and dysphoric throughout the trip, generally consisting of extreme paranoia and feelings of impending doom. It is largely confusing and disorienting often leading to a complete inability to communicate or understand normal language. It contains unique cognitive effects found almost exclusively in the deliriant class.

The most prominent of these effects include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Thought deceleration
  • Suppression of emotion
  • Suppression of information processing
  • Amnesia
  • Suppression of language
  • Time distortion
  • Paranoia

Visual effects:

Suppression

DPH does not enhance visual stimuli in the way that psychedelics do, instead it tends to decrease visual aptitude both increasing hallucination and degrading vision.

  • Decreased visual acuity
  • Suppression of pattern recognition
  • Blurred vision

Distortions

As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:

  • Visual drifting (Melting, Breathing, Morphing and Flowing) - In comparison to other hallucinogens, this effect can be described as intricate in complexity, jittery, slow and rigid in motion, static in their permanence, realistic in believability, and interactive in plasticity.
  • Visual haze
  • After images

Hallucinatory states

DPH and other deliriants are unique in that they offer solid hallucinations which display themselves seamlessly into waking consciousness, similar to fully formed dreams or delusions. In contrast, classical psychedelics and dissociatives have progressive levels of multiple all encompassing sensory effects, before reaching the level of concrete hallucination.

These can literally encompass anything but common manifestations include,

  • Black phosphenes
  • Spiders and various insects
  • Shadow people
  • "Hatman"
  • Animals and pets
  • Human beings, usually behaving completely normally
  • Phantom cigarettes, spliffs and bowls
  • Phantom water and drinks
  • Floating inanimate objects that appear out of nowhere, only to disappear after your hand goes directly through the object while trying to grab hold of it.
  • Every day conversations with friends, family members and fictional people that aren’t really there.

The hallucinatory states in DPH and other deliriants are more delirious and uncontrollable than that of any other commonly used hallucinogen. These states alternate between waking external hallucination and internal hallucinatory states.

The effects of such hallucinatory states include two separate components:

  • External hallucinations
  • Internal hallucinations

Auditory effects:

The auditory effects of DPH are common in their occurrence and exhibit a range of effects which commonly includes:

  • Suppression
  • Hallucinations

Physical health effects, potential addiction and tolerance:

If taken on any kind of a regular basis, DPH can have some serious but unstudied adverse effects on ones kidneys and result in bladder issues similar to that of ketamine cystitis.

It is assumed non-addictive by most due to the nature of the experience but many people do find themselves coming back to it on a regular basis. This can often lead to addiction and extreme caution should be taken.

Diphenhydramine can become fatal if amounts close to or exceeding 2 grams are consumed and can result in death when combined with most stimulants and MAOI inhibitors. It is worth noting however that a dosage of 1 gram is considered extreme in its strength and could potentially result in a fatal overdose if a person happened to be particularly sensitive to this substance.

In terms of its tolerance, this forms very quickly with DPH trips, meaning that a trip can only occur at full effects every 2-4 weeks.

Available forms:

DPH is available in several different forms over the counter and online.

  • Capsules - available over the counter and online. Well-known brands include Benadryl, Benylin, Nytol and Sominex. Many of these products contain other medicines, including dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and ephedrine. Care should be taken when using these products to ensure that there is no overdose on other medicines in the DPH-containing product.
  • Liquid - available over the counter and online. DPH in liquid form can be taken orally or injected. Well-known brands include Benadryl, Benylin, Nytol and Sominex. Many of these products contain other medicines, including dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and ephedrine. Care should be taken when using these products to ensure that there is no overdose on other medicines in the DPH-containing product.
  • Powder - available online. DPH in powdered form can be taken orally, via injection or insufflation.

Legal issues:

DPH is available either over the counter or by prescription in most countries. Some countries however require the purchaser to be over 16, 18 or 21.

  • Zambia: Possession and sale is illegal.

Reader submitted trip reports:

Conclusion:

The subjective effects breakdown contained within this article was written by the PsychonautWiki admin known as Cocoanatta.

Nobody is going to stop you from trying this but if you’re completely set on it, at least wait until you have had a large amount of experience being out of your mind on psychedelic and dissociative substances first.

The fact that this substance is completely legal and available to the masses, despite being far more dangerous than comparatively benign psychedelics such as LSD shows that our governments are not concerned with the dangers of drug induced hallucination in itself. They are instead concerned with the secondary effects, namely the drug induced changes of perspective which psychedelics offer but deliriants do not.

4-AcO-DMT, broken down and described

Dosage:

Threshold : 5 - 10mg
Light : 10 - 20mg
Common : 20 - 30mg
Strong : 30 - 40mg
Heavy : 40mg +

Duration:

Total Duration : 6 - 8 hours
Onset : 20 - 60 minutes
Initial effects : 15 - 30 minutes
Peak : 3 - 6 hours
Coming down : 3 - 5 hours
After effects : 2 - 5 hours

4-AcO-DMT (also known as Psilacetin, 4-Acetoxy-DMT, or O-Acetylpsilocin) is a synthetically produced psychoactive drug usually sold by online research chemical vendors. It is the acetylated form of the psilocybin mushroom alkaloid psilocin and is a lower homologue of 4-AcO-DET, 4-AcO-MiPT and 4-AcO-DiPT.

This substance is considered by the psychedelic community to be an extremely useful alternative to psilocybin as they are both believed to be pro-drugs of psilocin. This is because many people report that the subjective effects are indistinguishable from that of a typical psilocybin mushroom trip.

However, many people also report that 4-AcO-DMT’s effects differ greatly from that of psilocybin and psilocin. The exact differences are often difficult to define but suggest that as well as being a pro-drug to psilocin, 4-AcO-DMT is also active in itself.

The 4-AcO-DMT experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.

Physical Effects:

The physical effects of 4-AcO-DMT can be broken down into two components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:

  • Spontaneous tactile sensations - The body high of 4-AcO-DMT can be described as a pleasurable, warm, soft and all-encompassing tingling sensation. This maintains a consistent presence that steadily rises with the onset and hits its limit once the peak has been reached.
  • Sedation - In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, 4-AcO-DMT is considered by most to be relaxing, stoning and mildly sedating. This sense of sedation is often accompanied by compulsive yawning, a runny nose and watering eyes.

Cognitive Effects:

The head space of 4-AcO-DMT is described by many as extremely relaxing, profound and stoning in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or 2C-B which tend to be energetic and stimulating. It contains a large number of psychedelic typical and unique cognitive effects.

The most prominent of these typical effects generally include:

  • Enhancement of current mind state
  • Connectivity of thought
  • Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
  • Time distortion
  • Outrospection
  • Deja-Vu
  • Removal of cultural filter
  • Feelings of predeterminism
  • Conceptual thinking
  • Direct communication with the subconsious
  • Ego suppression, loss and death
  • Feelings of interdependent opposites
  • Delusions
  • States of unity and interconnectedness
  • Enhancement and suppression cycles - This can be described as constant waves of extremely stimulated and profound thinking which are spontaneously surpassed in a cyclic fashion by waves of general thought suppression and mental intoxication. These two states seem to switch between each other in a consistent loop once every 20 - 60 minutes.

Visual Effects:

Enhancements

4-AcO-DMT presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:

  • Increased visual acuity
  • Enhancement of colours
  • Enhanced pattern recognition

Distortions

As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:

  • Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion and static in its appearance.
  • Tracers
  • After images
  • Texture repetition
  • Colour shifting
  • Scenery slicing

Geometry

The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of 4-AcO-DMT, Ayahuasca and 2C-E than LSD. It can be comprehensively described as structured in its organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, blurred in its edges and rounded in its corners. They have a very “natural” feel to them and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7B visual geometry over Level 7A.

Hallucinatory States

4-AcO-DMT and its various other forms produce a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of many other commonly used psychedelics. These effects generally include:

  • External hallucinations
  • Internal hallucinations - This particular effect commonly contains hallucinations with scenarios, landscapes, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively of religious, spiritual, mystical or a transcendental nature in their overall theme.

Auditory Effects:

The auditory effects of 4-AcO-DMT are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:

  • Enhancements
  • Distortions
  • Hallucinations

Physical Health Effects, Potential Addiction and Tolerance:

The lethal dosage at which 50% of users would suffer a fatal overdose (LD50) of psilacetin has been extrapolated from animal results to be roughly 800mg for an average human being. This is 10 times the extremely high dosage of 80mg which most users would never feel the need to take.

In terms of its tolerance, 4-AcO-DMT tolerance lasts for approximately a week, meaning that it is very difficult to form an addiction to this substance. It also has a high cross-tolerance, affecting the potency of other tryptamines. Alongside of this (due to its psychedelic properties) users report a strong self-regulating quality towards the usage of this substance.

As a member of the tryptamine family, 4-AcO-DMT can be considered harmless and benign when it comes to any negative physical repercussions towards one’s health. This is supported by the total lack of any negative health reports, but of course cannot be guaranteed due to lack of formal scientific studies.

Legal issues:

Possession and sale of 4-AcO-DMT is unscheduled in most countries.

  • UK: It could be considered illegal under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act as it metabolizes into psilocin.
  • USA: It could be considered illegal under the Federal Analog Act as an analogue of psilocin.

Reader submitted trip reports:

Conclusion:

As far as I am aware, 4-AcO-DMT is by far the experientially deepest and most spiritual research chemical tryptamine that is currently available within the online market. It is in many ways considerably more practical than psilocybin mushrooms and from my personal experience indistinguishable in its effects and considerably easier to ingest with reduced nausea.

2C-B (4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine) is a psychedelic phenethylamine of the 2C-x family; it was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin in 1974.

This substance first saw use among the psychiatric community as an aid during therapy. It was considered one of the best drugs for this purpose because of its short duration, relative absence of side effects, and comparably mild nature.

Like many 2c-x substances, this drug is a highly dose sensitive psychedelic known for its entactogenic effects, bright visuals, and intense body load. This substance is often described by users as feeling half way between LSD and MDMA. Many reports suggest that while 2C-B’s entactogenic effects are less pronounced than MDMA, the visual effects are described as more pronounced and colourful.

The 2C-B experience contains a complex and wide array of psychedelic effects which I will now begin to breakdown and describe…

Physical effects:

The body high of 2C-B is not necessarily one of the most intense, but one of the most complex compared to other psychedelics, sharing components of MDMA, 2C-E, and LSD. This is first characterized by an intense soft warm glow that grows over the body and is capable of becoming extremely physically euphoric, this is most similar to MDMA and is consistently manifested throughout the experience. This is contrasted by an intensely pleasurable yet sharp, cold electric tingling sensation which moves up and down the body, this is most similar to LSD and is also consistently manifested throughout the trip. The final physical effect noticed throughout the experience is an intense and slightly uncomfortable, energetic pins and needles sensation that manifests itself in the form of a continuously shifting tingling sensation that travels up and down the body in spontaneous waves, this is most similar to 2C-E and is not entirely consistent throughout the trip.

In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper 2C-B is usually considered to be very energetic and stimulating in a fashion that is quite comparable to that of MDMA.

A commonly felt physical component of the 2C-B trip is the way in which it heightens and enhances sexual arousal. When experienced, this sensation is not overwhelming or out of control but simply remains something that the tripper is constantly aware of. If sexual activities of any kind are engaged in, they are found to be immensely more pleasurable beyond anything that could be possible sober, with orgasm becoming difficult to reach but completely possible to obtain. When obtained the orgasm itself is capable of temporarily increasing the effects of the drug, this is most commonly experienced as visual effects dramatically increasing in a short yet powerful burst.

Bodily enhancements,

2C-B presents a full and complete array of bodily enhancements which generally includes,

  • Enhanced tactile sensations
  • Increased bodily awareness
  • Increased muscle control

Cognitive effects:

The head space of 2C-B is described by many as one which is both insightful and relatively normal in its thought processes even at moderate to high dosages. This manifests itself as two different styles of head space that depend entirely on the setting. For example, when taken with others these effects manifest themselves as very strong entactogenic effects, when taken alone however psychedelic introspection is present. These feelings of sociability, love and empathy are a little weaker and less sharp than those found on substances such as MDMA but still prove stronger and more consistent than other psychedelics of any class, this is capable of providing long lasting therapeutic effects.

The total sum of these cognitive components regardless of the setting generally includes,

  • Entactogenic effects (increased empathy and sociability)
  • Sexual arousal
  • Acceleration of thought
  • Enhancement of current mindstate
  • Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
  • Introspection
  • Suppression of cultural filter
  • Conceptual thinking
  • Ego suppression, loss and death
  • Time distortion

Visual effects:

The visual effects experienced with 2C-B are commonly reported to manifest themselves in waves of increasing intensity and can be broken down into the following categories…

Enhancements,

2C-B presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally includes,

  • Increased visual acuity
  • Enhancement of colours
  • Enhanced pattern recognition

Distortions,

As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:

  • Visual drifting (Melting, Flowing, Breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion, static in their appearance and unrealistic/ cartoon like in style.
  • Tracers
  • After images
  • Texture repetition
  • Colour shifting
  • Scenery slicing

Geometry,

The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of LSD than that of 2C-E, psilocin, or ayahuasca. They can be comprehensively described as unstructured in their organization, algorithmic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, sharp in their edges and angular in their corners. They seem high in algorithmic visuals such as fractals and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7A visual geometry over Level 7B.

Hallucinatory states,

Like LSD, while 2C-B is capable of producing a full range of low and high level hallucinatory states, this is extremely rare and inconsistent at higher levels but common at lower.

  • Transformations
  • Imagery
  • Hallucinations - While most traditional psychedelics such as LSA, Ayahuasca and Mescaline will induce hallucinations near consistently at level 5 geometry and above, 2C-B will for most simply go straight into Level 7A visual geometry.

Auditory effects:

The auditory effects of 2C-B are more common than some psychedelics in their occurrence and are capable of producing a full range of effects which commonly includes,

  • enhancements
  • distortions
  • hallucinations

Physical health effects, potential addiction and tolerance:

There is no current data for the lethal dosage of 2C-B, but it is thought to be extremely high. Alexander shulgin reported in his book PIHKAL that an accidental dosage of 100mg resulted in no physical or psychological damage.

Since the invention of this substance in 1974, not a single person has yet to accidentally or deliberately experience a fatal overdose with this substance. This suggests that 2C-B is very safe but please keep in mind that clinical studies assessing its safety have not been performed in any scientific context.

In terms of its tolerance, 2C-B can be redosed repeatedly with little to no loss in the strength of its subjective effects. This means that is theoretically possible to become addicted to it but thanks to its psychedelic properties users experience a powerful self regulating quality to this substance.

Legal issues:

  • Australia: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • Belgium: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • Brazil: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • The EU: 2C-B is a Schedule II drug.
  • Canada: 2C-B is a Schedule III drug.
  • Estonia: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
  • Finland: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • Japan: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • The Netherlands: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • Norway: 2C-B is a Schedule II drug.
  • Poland: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
  • Russia: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • Spain: 2C-B is a Category 2 drug.
  • Sweden: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
  • Switzerland: Possession, production and sale is illegal.
  • UK: 2C-B is a Class A drug.
  • USA: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.

Conclusion:

The main bulk of the 2C-B subjective effects breakdown for this particular article was not written by myself but the Encyclopedia Psychonautica admin known as Cocoanatta. I have tried 2C-B on two separate occasions and can confirm that the descriptions are indeed accurate. This demonstrates that people beyond myself can produce formal and detailed hallucinogenic subjective effect breakdowns by simply following the standardized system defined within our potential subjective effects index. I encourage anybody else who wants to contribute to do so and I can safely say that community collaboration is going to play a much larger role across this website in the future.

As for the substance itself, 2C-B is an incredibly fun and therapeutically beneficial substance, this makes it extremely useful for both recreational and introspective purposes. It is in my opinion, the most suitable psychedelic for a beginner in existence due to its clear, euphoric headspace and proportionally mild visual effects in comparison to that of LSD or mushrooms.

LSA, broken down and described

image

Onset : 30- 180 min
Duration : 4 - 10 hours
Normal After Effects : 2 - 24 hours

LSA, also known as Ergine, d-lysergic acid amide and d-lysergamide, is an alkaloid of the ergoline family that occurs in various species of vines, the morning glory flower and some species of fungi. It is the dominant alkaloid found in the seeds of several varieties of morning glories in concentrations of approximately 10 µg per seed, as well as Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds, at a concentration of around 0.13% of dry weight. It has structural similarity’s to LSD, putting it in the lysergamide family of psychedelics.

A traditional use of morning glory seeds by Mexican Native Americans was first described by Richard Schultes in 1941 in a short report documenting their use going back to Aztec times. Further research was published in 1960, when Don Thomes MacDougall reported that the seeds of morning glory flowers were used as sacraments by certain Zapotecs, sometimes in conjunction with the seeds of Rivea corymbosa, another species of morning glory which has a similar chemical composition, containing lysergol instead of LSA.

The LSA experience contains a complex and wide array of psychedelic effects which I will now begin to breakdown and describe…

Physical effects:

The body high of LSA can be described as a mild yet pleasurable, soft tingling sensation. This is largely noticed in high doses and is accompanied by strong waves of euphoria which are usually manifested spontaneously at different unpredictable points throughout the trip but can also maintain a consistent presence, in either case however they steadily rise with the onset and hit their limit once the peak has been reached.

In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, LSA tends to be sedating however it can be setting dependent. For example, when taken in settings with large amounts of stimulus or during physically strenuous activities such as walking, running, climbing or dancing it is fully capable of becoming stimulating and energetic. In contrast however, when taken in calm environments such as darkened rooms with comfortable seating it is consistently relaxing, peaceful and quite sedating.

Cognitive effects:

The head space of LSA is described by many as extremely relaxing yet lucid and clear headed in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or Psilocin. Although the head space is primarily sedating, this is accompanied by fast paced bursts of thought which is complemented by a powerful enhancement of the ability to visualize concepts. This ability eventually becomes so drawn out proportional to dosage that it leads to full blown hallucinatory states that are entirely lucid and for the most part controllable.

LSA contains a large number of psychedelic cognitive effects. The most prominent of these typical effects include,

  • Increased connectivity of thought
  • Introspection
  • Acceleration of thought
  • Enhancement of current mind state
  • Feelings of fascination and awe
  • Conceptual thinking
  • Ego suppression, loss and death
  • Time distortion
  • Communication with the subconscious
  • Deja-vu

Visual effects:

The visual effects of LSA are mostly present when large doses have been consumed.

Enhancements,

LSA presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally includes,

  • Increased visual acuity
  • Enhancement of colours
  • Enhanced pattern recognition

Distortions,

As for visual distortions and alterations, these are significantly more simplistic from that of open eye distortions found with other psychedelics. Effects experienced are detailed below,

  • Visual drifting (Melting, Flowing, Breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics this effect can be described as mild but highly detailed yet cartoon like in appearance. They are fast yet smooth in motion and fleeting in their permanence. This is an inconsistently manifested effect with some never reporting such distortions.
  • Colour shifting

Geometry,

The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of 4-AcO-DMT, Ayahuasca and 2C-E than LSD or 2C-B. They can be comprehensively described as structured in their organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, zoomed out and small in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, blurred in their edges and rounded in their corners. They have a much more “natural” feel to them than LSD and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7B visual geometry over Level 7A.

Hallucinatory states,

LSA produces a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is very consistent when taken in large doses. The effects of such states include,

  • Transformations - these partially follow the content of the users current thought process
  • Imagery - in comparison to other psychedelics such as LSD, LSA is extremely high in imagery embedded within the visual geometry.
  • Hallucinatory states - unlike LSD, LSA consistently produces moderate to high level hallucinatory states in high doses. This particular effect can be compared to a lucid dream state and commonly contains hallucinations with plots, settings, autonomous entity contact and scenarios. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively religious, spiritual, mystical or transcendental nature in their overall theme. Compared to other hallucinatory states, LSA is more similar to ayahuasca than a dissociative or a deliriant.

Auditory effects:

The auditory effects of LSA are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly includes,

  • enhancements
  • distortions
  • hallucinations

Natural sources:

Morning glory seeds,

The seeds of many species of morning glory contain lysergamide alkaloids such as the psychedelic known as LSA. The seeds are found in many gardening stores; however, it’s worth noting that the seeds from commercial sources are often coated in some form of pesticide or methylmercury which can result in extreme nausea if ingested. Seeds without these pesticides can be purchased cheaply online and are freely available through search engines such as google.

When using morning glory seeds the dosage for oral consumption is generally considered to be,

  • Light : 50 - 100 seeds / 1.5 - 3 g
  • Common : 100 - 250 seeds / 3 - 6 g
  • Strong : 250 - 400 seeds / 6 - 10 g
  • Heavy : 400 + seeds / 10 + g

image

Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds,

Hawaiian baby woodrose is a perennial climbing vine that is native to the Indian subcontinent and introduced to numerous areas worldwide, including Hawaii, Africa and the Caribbean. Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds may be consumed for their various lysergamide alkaloids, such as LSA. These seeds are found in many gardening stores; however, the seeds from commercial sources are often coated in some form of pesticide or methylmercury which can result in extreme nausea if ingested. Seeds without these pesticides can be purchased cheaply online and are freely available through search engines such as Google.

When using morning glory seeds the dosage for oral consumption is generally considered to be,

  • Threshold : 1 - 4 seeds
  • Light : 3 - 6 seeds
  • Common : 5 - 8 seeds
  • Strong : 7 - 12 seeds
  • Heavy : 12 + seeds

image

Physical health effects, potential addiction and tolerance:

The toxic dosage of LSA is unknown as there has never been a single reported over dose. This suggests that LSA is perfectly safe to simply try on the odd occasion.

However, LSA should not be used on a frequent basis. When used repeatedly over a short period of time the vasoconstriction effects build up while the psychoactive effects get weaker. If you’re feeling sore legs, this is a sign of the vasoconstriction effects building up in your body. The legs feel sore because not enough blood is getting to the muscles. Your upper leg muscles are the largest, most energy eating muscles in your body, and they will feel sore if blood flow to them is lowered even a little bit. If you’ve taken HBWR seeds, morning glory seeds, pure LSA and are experiencing sore legs you need to hold off for a while. Let your body get back to baseline before using them again. This is more important with LSA (HBWR, morning glories, etc.). With LSA it can take up to 3 days of abstinence to get back to baseline.

It’s important to note that LSA is non-habit-forming and that the desire to use it can actually decrease with use, it is most often self-regulating. You also build an almost immediate tolerance to LSA after ingestion, preventing you from experiencing its full effects more often than every 4-7 days, unless you increase your dose significantly.

Legal issues:

  • Consumption of LSA containing materials is prohibited under state legislation in most Australian states.
  • LSA is not listed in Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances act and is therefore not illegal to possess. It is probably illegal to sell for human consumption as a drug, though the plants that contain it are not controlled in Canada.
  • LSA is not legally classified as a drug, consumption or possession of LSA or LSA containing-materials is not prohibited.
  • LSA is controlled in the Netherlands. This makes it illegal to possess, distribute, and produce without a license.
  • Chemical LSA is controlled as a drug in New Zealand. The plants and seeds of morning glory species are legal to possess, cultivate, buy, and distribute. Seeds are reportedly sprayed and warnings included on the packets not to consume the seeds.
  • Status of LSA as chemical unknown. LSA-containg plants appear to be uncontrolled in poland.
  • Sweden is planning to control a number of chemicals as of May 1, 2007 including LSA, 2C-T-4, DXM, and DOI.
  • LSA is a Class A substance within the United Kingdom, categorized as a precursor to LSD (Misuse of Drugs Act 1971).

Preparation methods:

LSA containing seeds can be prepared in a number of different ways. Click the links below for detailed step by step techniques,

  • Extraction of LSA tincture - This extraction uses household chemicals such as naptha and ethanol to extract the LSA into a pure and nausea free liquid form. It is perfectly safe if performed correctly and can take between a few hours to several days depending on the desired potency.
  • Nausea free LSA extraction with garlic - This extraction uses cold tap water and a refrigerator to extract the LSA from the seeds and into a glass of water. It uses garlic to minimize the nausea and takes at least 4 hours in total.
  • LSA Adducts - This preparation method is not an extraction and merely theoretical but based around well reasoned chemistry and consistently themed anecdotal reports. It uses common household herbs such as Peppermint and cinnamon bark essential oil to convert LSA into other substances with radically altered subjective effects including LSH and CDLSA.

In Conclusion:

The entirety of the LSA subjective effects breakdown for this particular article was not written by myself but the Encyclopedia Psychonautica admin known as Cocoanatta. I have tried LSA myself on numerous occasions and can confirm that this article is indeed accurate.

As for the substance itself, although LSA is well known across the psychedelic community, this substance has a pretty bad reputation for causing painful states of nausea, vomiting and vasioconstriction despite the fact that this can be greatly reduced depending on the method of preparation. Along side of this LSA is also perceived as a substance which only causes very mild visual and cognitive effects in comparison to other more “classical” psychedelics.

This assumption however is simply untrue. LSA goes just as deep as LSD, Mushrooms, Ayahuasca or any other psychedelic and you simply need to find the right dosage and extract it correctly. This makes LSA an excellent choice for any psychonaut, especially when considering how cost effective and widely available the natural plant sources are.

Ayahuasca, broken down and described

image

Onset : 20 - 60 minutes
Duration : 2 - 6 hours
Normal After Effects : 1 - 8 hours

Ayahuasca is any of various psychoactive infusions prepared from a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as B. caapi (Harmaline) or a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMAs) such as syrian rue (Harmine), taken with a brewed dimethyltryptamine (DMT) containing plant species. There are a large variety of these plants but in western society the most commonly used plants are either Psychotria viridis leaves or Mimosa Hostillis rootbark.

Harmala alkaloids are MAO-inhibiting beta-carbolines. Harmine and harmaline are classed as selective and reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A). This inhibition of MAO-A allows DMT to diffuse unmetabolized past the membranes in the stomach and small intestine, and eventually cross the blood–brain barrier (which, by itself, requires no MAO-A inhibition) to activate receptor sites in the brain. Without RIMAs or an MAOI, DMT would be oxidised (and thus rendered biologically inactive) by monoamine oxidase enzymes in the digestive tract.

Ayahuasca usually comes in the form of a foul tasting brown liquid that has been used by the indigenous tribes of South America since before recorded history. However, it was first discovered by the western world in the 16th century, when Christian missionaries from Spain and Portugal predictably described it as the work of the devil.

Those who undergo the ayahuasca experience report having profound spiritual revelations regarding their purpose on earth, the true nature of the universe as well as deep insight as how to be the best person they possibly can. It is nearly always said that people experience profound positive changes in their life subsequent to consuming ayahuasca. In addition, it is often reported that individuals experience what gaining access to so called “higher spiritual dimensions” and making contact with various autonomous entities who serve to act as guides or healers.

Here I will describe and categorize each subjective effect that the Ayahuasca experience has to offer in as much detail as I possibly can.

Physical effects:

The body high of ayahuasca can be described as a pleasurable, warm, soft and all encompassing glow. For some it is manifested spontaneously at different unpredictable points throughout the trip but for others it maintains a consistent presence that steadily rises with the onset and hits its limit once the peak has been reached.

In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper ayahuasca is entirely setting dependent. For example, when taken in social settings with fast paced music or during physically strenuous situations such as running, walking, climbing or dancing it becomes stimulating and energetic. In contrast however, when taken in calm environments such as darkened rooms with comfortable seating it can become relaxing, peaceful and even moderately sedating.

Cognitive effects:

The head space of ayahuasca is described by many as extremely sober and clear headed in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or Psilocin. It contains a large number of psychedelic typical and unique cognitive effects.

The most prominent of these typical effects include,

  • Introspection
  • Acceleration of thought
  • Enhancement of current mind state
  • Removal of cultural filter
  • Feelings of fascination and awe
  • Conceptual thinking
  • Vocabulary suppression
  • Ego suppression, loss and death
  • Time distortion
  • Deja-vu

Along side of the typical cognitive effects listed above, ayahuasca induces certain states which are seemingly rare or spontaneous within all other psychedelics in a consistent, reproducible and extremely powerful way. These commonly reported unique cognitive effects include,

  • Powerful and consistent mindfulness - The term “mindfulness" is used within psychological literature to refer to states which are achieved through the act of practising meditation. This feeling is characterized by a sense of focus on the present moment with a stillness and clarity of mind. Induced mindfulness can occur within any psychedelic but is unique within ayahuasca due to how consistently it is manifested and the way in which it can sustain itself for days, weeks or even months after a single high dose experience. This is an extremely beneficial and therapeutic effect for personal psychological health. In contrast, other more commonly used psychedelics such as LSD and Psilocin tend to induce this effect in a merely spontaneous and temporary form.
  • Consistently induced states of unity and interconnectedness - This is an effect is unique within ayahuasca due to how consistently it is manifested as an accompanying effect along side of ego death and occasionally, ego suppression. In contrast, other more commonly used psychedelics such as LSD and Psilocin tend to induce this effect rarely at best.
  • Consistent communication with the subconscious - Although I am currently working on it, this specific effect has yet to be fully mapped out by me in a formal level of detail. It can be briefly described however as a literal communication with an internal voice within the mind which claims to be the subconscious. At lower levels this is performed by the subconscious conversing with you through your own thought stream. At higher dosages however it becomes a fully audible voice which is capable of coherent conversation on the same level as the ego and arguably self aware in its own right.
  • Sustained dream potentiation - Regular or occassional ayahuasca usage commonly results in extremely vivid, lucid and easy to recollect dreams in the days and weeks after the experience.

It’s worth noting that the overall cognitive positivity or negativity of an ayahuasca trip in psychologically balanced individuals depends greatly on how nauseating or purgative the chosen method of preparation is. For example, paranoia, anxiety, delirium and a difficulty stringing thoughts together often immediately manifest themselves during uncomfortable states of nausea for the inexperienced but remain absent when purge free methods of preparation are used or the user has been accustomed to the purge itself.

Visual effects:

Enhancements,

Ayahuasca presents a complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally includes,

  • Increased visual acuity
  • Enhancement of colours
  • Enhanced pattern recognition

Distortions,

As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below,

  • Visual drifting (melting, breathing, warping and flowing) - In comparison to other psychedelics this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion and static in their appearance.
  • Tracers
  • After images
  • Texture repetition
  • Colour shifting
  • Scenery slicing

Geometry,

The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of Psilocin than LSD. They can be comprehensively described as structured in their organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, equal in blurred and sharp edges and equal in rounded and angular corners. At higher dosages they are significantly more likely to result in states of level 7B visual geometry over level 7A.

In terms of their manifestation they are progressive in nature and continuously self complexify in settings with little or no visual input and disturbances. For example, darkness will cause the geometry to progressively intensify but this can immediately be reset back down to base level by simply turning on a bright light or actively performing a physical task which requires any level of concentration.

Hallucinatory states,

Ayahuasca and other forms of DMT produce a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of any other commonly used psychedelic. These effects include,

  • Transformations
  • Imagery
  • Hallucinations - this particular effect commonly contains hallucinations with scenarios, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively religious, spiritual, mystical or transcendental nature in their overall theme.

Auditory effects:

The auditory effects of ayahuasca are extremely consistent in occurrence in comparison to that of LSD and psilocin and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly includes,

  • Auditory enhancements
  • Auditory distortions
  • Auditory hallucinations

Health effects, potential addiction and tolerance:

Research has been made showing the relative physical safety of DMT.

Ayahuasca, has been studied by multidisciplinary groups in Brazil and other countries and was shown that in reasonable doses in a careful context, it presents no negative cognitive/psychiatric/physical consequences.

In terms of mental health the very same study showed that users presented elevated levels of happiness and health. Ayahuasca is not physically addictive, and many users experience a frequency self-regulating quality to the drug. This is despite the fact that the substance holds no real tolerance and can be used on a daily basis if it is desired.

As for the harmine or Syrian rue, it is only dangerous when taken in combination with other drugs and it is not necessary to follow a strict tyramine free diet, which is the case with harmaline. So although RIMAs are generally safer than MAOIs, they still have highly dangerous interactions when combined with almost any antidepressant or stimulant, common migraine medications, certain herbs, or even most cold medicines (including decongestants, antihistamines, and cough syrup) as it can cause potentially lethal serotonin syndrome or hypertensive crisis.

Legal issues:

  • Internationally, DMT is a Schedule I drug under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The Commentary on the Convention on Psychotropic Substances notes, however, that the plants containing it are not subject to international control.
  • The legal status in the United States of DMT-containing plants is somewhat questionable. Ayahuasca plants and preparations are legal, as they contain no scheduled chemicals. However, brews made using DMT containing plants are illegal since DMT is a Schedule I drug.
  • Religious use in Brazil was legalized after two official inquiries into the tea in the mid-1980s, which concluded that ayahuasca is not a recreational drug and has valid spiritual uses.
  • In france, as of 2005 almost every single DMT containing plant that could be used to make Ayahusca is illegal.

Although DMT has been made illegal in almost every country. The common botanical sources for it, however, are still legal pretty much everywhere. You can even freely purchase DMT containing plants from specialized ethnobotanical shops on the internet. Harmine and harmaline, are also generally legal, including most of its ethnobotanically common plant sources. In Canada however harmaline is a Schedule lll drug.

Preparation methods:

Ayahuasca can be prepared in a number of ways using a variety of different plant sources. For the DMT, the most commonly used ingredients are mimosa hostillis rootbark or acacia rootbark. The harmala alkaloids and inhibitors are usually found within syrian rue seeds or Banisteriopsis caapi leaves. All of these are legal to purchase within most countries and freely available through the use of google.

For the purposes of this article we have developed, linked and listed below 3 formal recipes for both traditional ayahuasca brews and practical modern day equivalents,

  • Traditional ayahuasca brew - This method can take up to several hours depending on the desired potency of the brew. It results in a shot glass of foul tasting brown liquid and has a high risk of nausea / purging.
  • Ayahuasca fruit smoothie - This method seems absurdly comical in its simplicity and incredible practicality.  I accidentally stumbled upon this method through random experimentation and realized that simply blending small amounts of the wood into a banana smoothie and adding sugar results in a perfectly drinkable (although strangely textured) drink. This can be made within less than ten minutes and results in minimal nausea. It is without exaggeration, the simplest and most practical ayahuasca recipe ever developed.
  • Ayahuasca chocolate shredded wheat cupcakes - After realizing that ayahuasca could easily be prepared into a milkshake, further experimentation resulted in cupcake which is surprisingly delicious although very chocolatey. It takes an hour or so in total to make these cakes and contains minimal nausea. They are better used for low to moderate dosages and many people note that they literally taste like normal cupcakes.

Misconceptions:

There appears to be a general consensus among many online psychedelic communities that ayahuasca is simply too powerful for beginners and that even the most experienced of psychonauts should tread lightly. Some people even go as far as saying that you should not undergo the experience without the guidance of a practising shaman and always within a traditional environment.

I would like to use this section of the article to express the opinion that these view points are misinformed and at times, unnecessarily elitist. Providing the user can handle nausea or a purge free preparation method has been used, ayahuasca is the most perfect starter psychedelic in existence and not in any way more overwhelming than LSD or mushrooms. It can also be taken in any number of environments no matter how shamanically inappropriate but as with any psychedelic, it will only take you to its deepest points within silent darkness.

Conclusion:

Ayahuasca is by far my favourite psychedelic. It is extremely easy to make and offers a completely different, but amazing style of trip that needs to be taken much more seriously. If I had to choose a single substance for society to base its civilisation around it would be ayahuasca, not LSD and certainly not Alcohol.

The launch of a new website

image

My previous post specifically announced a period of inactivity due to the claim that “we are slowly putting together our biggest project yet”. Now after 162 individual articles and 4 months of extremely time consuming work I am excited to announce the launch of an entirely new, fully functional and community driven website under the domain name of www.encyclopediapsychonautica.org.

Since the very beginning, as this website has gradually progressed I have become increasingly aware that a tumblr blog is simply too self limiting of a host for a project of this size. Encyclopedia Psychonautica has therefore been created to serve as a wider reaching, legitimate version of disregardeverythingisay and the format of an open community driven wiki has been chosen so that the project can progress as quickly as possible and potentially become entirely self sufficient in its own momentum.

The website itself is still very much in progress but ultimately exists for the purpose of attempting to establish psychonautics as a legitimate field of science and to reach an understanding of the hallucinogenic experience through a formal documentation and analysis of the consistent subjective effects found within it. We have done this through the act of producing an extremely organized phenomenological breakdown and description of the individual effects and experiences found within a wide variety of differing methodologies in an extremely high level of detail. This has been done from a purely rational perspective which defines its own formalized procedure in a manner which does not depend on analogy, metaphors or mysticism to convey its definitions.

In a fashion that is similar to what I have been doing with DEIS for the past two years but with a more detailed, consistent and formalised writing style, the effects themselves are documented, organized and mapped out through the use of formal literary descriptions, terminologies and definitions which are organized into the separate articles below,

Along side of these literary descriptions, relevant galleries of image examples are used where ever possible to further reproduce and convey specific categorized subjective effects. We have done this through the act of collecting and creating many image examples which have been catalogued and organized into the extensive hallucinogenic replication gallery which can be found here. This page serves the useful purpose of formally documenting experiences in a level of detail which descriptive language and written analysis could not possibly come close to by itself.

The information contained within the links above have then been used as standardized reference points for the ongoing project of documenting and describing the subjective effects of specific substances and hallucinogens within this extensive index here. This catalogue of specific substances currently documents 23 individual hallucinogens and includes a range of substances, plants and combinations which are organized into appropriate pharmacological and experiential categories. For this specific section of the website we have put careful consideration into providing accurate and comprehensive sets of information on not just the subjective effects but on the chemistry, pharmacology, studied therapeutic uses, lethal dosage, addiction potential, tolerance build up and legal issues with which the substance is associated with. This ensures that users can be fully informed in a way that intends to minimize danger, maximize safety and end the cultural taboos associated with personal hallucinogen usage by providing unbiased and scientifically accurate information.

In order to provide the information necessary to understand the basic physical processes involved within the consumption of these specific substances, we have included a comprehensive and relevant set of encyclopaedic pages which break down and describe the various methods of drug action, neurotransmitters, hormones, pharmacological classes and general neuroscience. These pages can be found within this index here and have been carefully written in a way that is both easy to understand for a novice whilst simultaneously remaining detailed and informative.

In addition to breaking down the subjective effects and physical neurological processes behind various specific substances we have also provided sets of instructional information regarding a large host of recipes, chemical extraction methods and growing techniques for the preparation of different hallucinogens. This can be found within our hallucinogen preparation section here and currently includes multiple DMT and LSA extractions along side of changa and ayahuasca recipes which are written in clear, easy to understand step by step instructions. This section will be expanded over the upcoming weeks to include a wider array of preparation methods and serves the purpose of making hallucinogens significantly easier to obtain and more accessible to the masses.

As an experiment which eventually hopes to draw genuine statistical data from user submitted experiences we have included a section dedicated to cataloguing a database of user submitted trip reports which provides a detailed and formal analysis in the form of a tagging system below each individual experience. This serves the purpose of providing the community with a greater understanding of its own personal experiences and allows us to confirm the presence of individual subjective effects within specific substances. At the present moment this database of experiences includes 40 individual experiences and can be found here.

The biggest and most exciting difference between DEIS and EP stems entirely from the way in which anybody can now easily contribute their own personal sets of knowledge, ideas, expertise and experiences to this newly emerging field of formalized psychonautics. The prospect of community collaboration and drawing data from the psychedelic community as a whole has been without a doubt, the biggest source of personal motivation for setting up a project of this scale. There are many ways in which others can help and these include,

  • Submitting trip reports.
  • Writing up breakdowns and descriptions of currently undocumented specific substances.
  • Submitting extractions, recipes, growing techniques and preparation methods.
  • Submitting collected or original hallucinogenic replications in the form of images, video or even audio.
  • Submitting currently undocumented subjective hallucinogenic effects.
  • Writing up new articles.
  • Expanding upon and editing old articles.
  • Following the community to-do list which can be found here.
  • Bitcoin donations (1t5frxXujGz1reHrzNaAq4X3vrNM4c2NL) - any and all donations are greatly appreciated and go directly towards the financial upkeep of server maintenance, producing content and furthering the cause.

If you want to contribute but are unfamiliar with standard wiki formatting or do not feel that you possess the literary capabilities to develop your ideas or information in a comprehensive and legitimate manner, we have provided submission alternatives aside from writing the article up yourself. These include submitting your ideas and content to our community discussion subreddit found here, posting to the inbuilt discussion sections found within every article, talking with us in our live IRC chat room found here or simply emailing us at encyclopediapsychonautica@gmail.com. We strongly encourage you to contribute and even the smallest of submissions are sincerely appreciated. If we as a currently disorganized community of people are ever going to make a difference in terms of finally allowing humanity to benefit from what the hallucinogenic experience has to offer then we need to start collectively organizing and collaborating on a level which until this point, has been completely unheard of.

In terms of the short and long term future of both DEIS and EP, I have a huge multitude of elaborate yet necessary plans and general content that will need to be completed in order to progress the field of formalized psychonautics deeper into scientific legitimacy. For example, the creation of an automated piece of software which can generate accurate and statistical descriptions of any hallucinogen through the use of a complex questionnaire system will eventually be integrated into the website and has already been created in the form a manually operated prototype. Along side of this, I have plans for entirely new sections based on meditation and lucid dreaming as well as over 10 individual prewritten articles that will need to be posted to DEIS over the upcoming weeks. I am feeling more motivated and dedicated to this cause than ever before and strongly feel that we are stumbling upon a discovery of genuine historical significance and overwhelmingly profound implications.

Just to let you know, today is the 2nd year anniversary of DEIS. Thank you for reading and thank you for your support. I am extremely excited to work with all of you in the future and can say with confidence that this is only just the beginning of our projects potential.

Special Announcement ! - Just to let everybody know, I’m going to be fairly inactive for the next few weeks. This is because we are slowly putting together our biggest project yet. I am overwhelmed with work but extremely excited. In the mean time please enjoy this picture that I made today. That is all. <3

A request for trip report submissions

Hey guys, I will probably delete this post within the next several days but as the title suggests I am currently looking to expand my already very large collection of user submitted trip reports. The reason I ask for this is because I am working on a project which will generate basic but extremely useful statistical information through the use of a detailed tagging system that I will embed within a large database of trip reports.

I would trawl through the erowid experience vaults but the trip reports I’ve received from my readers consistently provide much more valuable data. This seems to be because the writers are at least vaguely aware of the different predefined terms and categories which I have written out in a way that allows the experience to be formally described under a universally understandable language and set of definitions. In comparison, Erowid and a few other places on the internet, seem to be written with one vague metaphor and analogy after the other.

If any of you are willing to submit trip reports, this would be a huge help! In return I will help you analyse the experience for you in as much detail as I can. These reports can be with any specific hallucinogen what so ever, the higher the dosage the better. There are no strict guide lines but please try to write in as much detail as possible, this should include dosage, the setting, the full range of effects it induced and the plots of any specific hallucinations that may have occurred.

To submit them you can email me at,
disregardeverythingisay@gmail.com

Or directly use the comment system towards the bottom of the page at,
http://tmblr.co/Zq_O-wmPNlT-

Your experiences are genuinely valuable from a scientific standpoint. Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Thanks for the reports I've received so far, please keep them coming <3

Ketamine is a hallucinogenic drug used in human and veterinary medicine, primarily for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia, usually in combination with a sedative. Other uses include sedation and anestheticin intensive care, (particularly in emergency medicine), and treatment of bronchospasm (a sudden constriction of the muscles in the walls of the lungs bronchioles).
Ketamine was originally developed as a medicine in 1965 as a derivative of phencyclidine (PCP), which was synthesized in 1926. It became popular among recreational users in the 1970’s but remains a ‘core’ medicine in the World Health Organization’s “Essential Drugs List", a list of minimum medical needs for a basic healthcare system.
This substance is a dissocitive which falls into the arylcyclohexylamine class of chemicals, and possesses NMDA receptor antagonist properties. NMDA receptors allow for electrical signals to pass between neurones in the brain and spinal column; for the signals to pass, the receptor must be open. NMDA receptor antagonists close the NMDA receptors by blocking them. This disconnection of neurones leads to loss of feeling, difficulty moving, and eventually the famous “k-hole".
This drug is the most famous of the classical dissociative hallucinogens and exhibits a wide array of complex subjective effects which are described in detail below…

Physical effects:
Assuming the substance has been insufflated, the very first physical effect hat is noticed is a sharp but relatively painless sensation within the nostril. An unpleasant taste is present for 15 - 20 minutes after insufflation and seems to come and go in an unpredictable manner.
At lower dosages, the physical sensations produced by the trip itself can be broken down into two distinct sensations. The first is a sharp, pleasurable tingling sensation which is location specific to the hands, feet and head. The second is a warm euphoric glow which emanates outwards from the centre of the body’s torso. Alongside of this, a significant decrease in the body’s overall weight is felt. This creates sensations of being extremely light and floaty in a way which is not necessarily stimulating, but still encouraging towards the act of moving around and engaging in physical activities.
As dosage increases, the physical sensations induced by the trip begin to become encompassed by feelings of physical detachment. This begins with feeling as if you are becoming removed from the body with a proportional loss of motor control and tactile sensation that increases along side of it. These sensations of dosage relative physical detachment are often described as feeling as if your body is not your own or feeling as if its movements have become partially to fully autonomous. As this effect increases motor control and bodily awareness are completely lost as total detachment from the physical senses and out of body experiences begin to take toll. This is accompanied by significant changes in the perceived direction and pull of gravity which results in feelings of flying over vast distances in multiple directions and varying speeds.
It’s worth noting that high dose ketamine trips can sometimes result in nausea and vomiting at the peak of trip. For most people, this is surprisingly not as unpleasant as they would initially expect due to the accompanying detachment from the physical senses.

Cognitive effects:
The most noticeable change in mental perception within the ketamine trip can be defined as a mild to complete detachment from the self and conscious awareness, which is the very definition of psychological dissociation. At lower levels this is usually described as feeling somehow separate and withdrawn from the external environment, as if life has somehow become a vague dream or film that plays out in front of you. Alongside of this, feelings of partial to complete autonomy associated with your thought stream and spoken conversation are often noted. As dosage increases, the cognitive detachment and dissociation eventually becomes so all-encompassing that ego death is inevitably reached, this is usually during high level out of body experiences. Along side of this, ketamine exhibits states of therapeutic dissociated introspection and spontaneous environment specific states of unity and interconnectedness.
It has also shown that ketamine, if taken even in small doses, is very effective for patients suffering from chronic depression and bipolar disorder. Specific studies which can be read about here and here have shown that the effect of the drug is immediate or within 2 hours and consistent in relieving patient’s depressive and/or suicidal symptoms, lasting up to 3 days after a single dosage. In comparison, common antidepressents, such as Prozac, are entirely ineffective for 40% of the population and can take weeks to show effects. This gives ketamine the potential to become an indispensable tool in the treatment of depression and bipolar, which is currently being held back by institutionalised drug prohibition. The mechanism behind this has been shown by studies which can be read about here. It stems from the way in which ketamine triggers the release of glutamate, which is a neurotransmitter that immediately stimulates the growth of damaged synapses which have been damaged by stress and depression.

Visual effects:
At lower levels of dissociation, the visual effects of ketamine can be described as the onset of a progressive detachment from the perception of sight and the brain’s ability to process it. This begins with blurred and doubled vision which leads onto the external environment, appearing as if it is being watched through a screen that becomes proportionally more distant dependent on dosage. Accompanying this, visual geometry similar in style to that of a psychedelic trip occurs. This experience is limited to level 1 - 4 experiences however and appears as significantly more colourful and intricate than anything found within MXE, but equal in complexity to that of DXM. Open eye perspective distortions such as alterations in the perception of size and distance attributed to the self and / or the external environment are commonly present.
Other dissociative specific visual distortions and alterations such as scenery slicing and environmental cubism are also present. As overall visual detachment increases in perfect proportion to its physical counterpart, out of body experiences eventually begin to set in. This takes a person’s conscious awareness into a place which can only be described as entering a vast and dark void, space or hole. It is commonly referred to by the drug community as “The k-hole" and contains within it an infinite array of level 1 - 4 hallucinatory structures.
Alongside of this, fully 3-dimensional hallucinatory states such as autonomous entity contact, landscapes and concepts are occasionally present, but significantly less consistent in their manifestation than psychedelics and deliriants.

Auditory effects:
At lower levels of detachment, a greatly enhanced sense of music appreciation becomes present. This can be described as the sensation of being able to comprehend and pay attention to each and every layer of sound to a complex piece of music. As dissociation increases however, sound can eventually become muffled, distant and extremely hard to perceive. Alongside of this, distortions in noise volume perception are often extremely altered at random points creating the sensation that everything is abnormally loud or silent.

Health effects, addiction potential and tolerance:
There are multiple dangers associated with compulsive ketamine abuse. It is because of this that I highly recomend doing as much research as you possibly can before considering trying this drug.
Extreme ketamine use can injure the bladder, causing ulcers (wounds) and fibrosis (stiffening of the bladder walls and shrinkage). This is strictly associated with regular overuse of ketamine and results in urinary frequency, urgency, pressure, pain, incontinence and/or bleeding from the bladder. They can receive a variety of diagnoses including ulcerative bladder, interstitial cystitis or ketamine cystitis.
Ketamine is also psychologically addictive when used on a regular basis. This can be avoided however by manually limiting your usage and not taking it compulsively.
Fatal ketamine overdoses are particularly rare but not completely unheard of. The LD50 for ketamine when injected into mice is 400mg/kg. As humans are generally more sensitive to drugs we devide it by 2, making 200mg/kg the estimated human lethal dose. Assuming the human weighs a conservative 50kg, this would require the lethal dosage to be atleast 10 grams. 40 times the amount of 250mg necessary for a highdose K-hole experience.
In terms of ketamine tolerance, this can take weeks to build up for some but for others it can take a single night of heavy use. Once a physical tolerance to ketamine has set itself in, it can often take a month or more to reset itself.

Legal issues:

  • The increase in illicit use prompted ketamine’s placement in Schedule III of the United States Controlled Substance Act in August 1999.
  • In the United Kingdom, it became labeled a Class C drug on 1 January 2006.
  • In Canada, ketamine is classified as a Schedule I narcotic, as of August 2005.
  • In Hong Kong, as of 2000, ketamine is regulated under Schedule 1 of Hong Kong Chapter 134 Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. It can only be used legally by health professionals, for university research purposes, or with a physician’s prescription.
  • By 2002, ketamine was classified as schedule III in Taiwan.

Conclusion:
Ketamine and dissociatives in general are a truly fascinating experience which open up a whole new world completely unlike anything found with the world of psychedelics. However, they are not nearly as insightful and something which I only try on a very rare basis due to their addictive potential and adverse health effects.

A Comprehensive Analysis of Hallucinogen Induced States of Unity and Interconnectedness

I am writing this article to serve as a dedicated analysis and description regarding my current understanding towards what I consider to be the most profound and important freestanding component within the entirety of the hallucinogenic experience. In the past, I have already written about the experience of states of unity and interconnectedness within this article here. This piece of writing however makes the incorrect assumption that this state is exclusively associated with level 7B visual geometry. It was also written from a perspective which is extremely limited in comparison to the understanding which I have since built up over the past few months. However, it is extremely important for me to make it clear that I have not come even remotely close to fully grasping or even comprehending both the logic behind this experience and its many potential consequences.
This is a level of understanding which I do not expect to ever reach. Despite this however, I am determined to steadily progress what I have already learnt through a combination of constant analysis and in-depth discussions with an increasingly large amount of people who have undergone this component.

To begin with, I will describe the specific subjective experience and consistent effects of this component in as much detail as possible.
It starts with a change in perspective which is consistently interpreted as the lifting of a deeply embedded and all encompassing illusion. The destruction of this leads onto feelings that the tripper has undergone some sort of profound “awakening” or “enlightenment”.
This illusion feels as though it has always been in place, forcing a person’s perspective of the world into feeling as if their concept of “self” or “I” with which they identify themselves as, is assumed to intrinsically follow two fundamental rules. The first of these rules is that the self is inherently separate from the external environment and could not possibly extend into it. The second is that the self is specifically limited to not even the physical body as a whole, but exclusively a person’s ego or internal narrative and the image of their own personality as built up through social interactions with other people.
Once removed, the absence of this inbuilt illusion can lead onto two possible levels of cognitive intensities which both follow very consistent and interlocking themes.

The lower and more basic of these two levels can be referred to as external environment specific states of unity and interconnectedness. It can be described as a loss of perceived boundaries between the physical body and either the entirety of the external environment or specific things contained within it. This is felt to be the result of a person’s central sense of self becoming attributed to not just the internal narrative of the ego but in equal measure, to the human body in its entirety and the things around it which it is physically connected to through the senses. This creates the undeniable perspective that the external environment is no longer a separate world which the “I” is confronting and disconnected from, but a single unified system of behaviour. This experience provides the perspective that you are the external environment experiencing itself through the specific point within it that this body’s physical sensory awareness and conscious thought happens to reside in. This sensation is generally described by most people as “becoming one with the things around me”.
The most common and relatable examples of states of unity and interconnectedness, which are manifested as specific to the external environment, include but are certainly not limited to the following perspectives:

  • Becoming one with a specific object which you are interacting with.
  • Becoming one with a specific person which you interacting with.
(particularly common if engaging in sexual activities)
  • Becoming one with large crowds of people.
(particularly common at raves and music festivals)
  • Becoming one with immediately perceivable nature but not man kind.
  • Becoming one with the immediate external environment as a whole.

The second and highest level of intensity for this component can be referred to as all encompassing states of unity and interconnectedness. It is at this point of intensity when the experience become infinitely more profound and limitless in its effects.
Once this level is reached, the external systems which a person’s central sense of self has become attributed to and one with is no longer limited to the immediately perceivable environment. Instead, it envelops and becomes attributed to the entirety of a person’s internally stored model of reality, existence and the universe as a whole.

This creates the sudden undeniable perspective that you are literally the entire universe experiencing itself, exploring itself and performing actions onto itself through the very specific point of space and time which your ego and conscious perception happens to reside in.
This is a feeling that when experienced, is immediately and universally understood to be an undeniable truth by anybody who undergoes it. It results in a number of profound consequences and changes in worldview or philosophical perspective which seem to follow fairly consistent themes across almost all people who experience this component. These include but are certainly not limited to:

  • A new system of ethics which values the well being of the external as on par with the importance of the ego.
  • The sensation that talking to others is the experience of engaging with another part of yourself.
  • The sensation that the act of learning is the universe discovering itself and so extremely important this it is accompanied by pleasurable full body mind orgasms and frissons.
  • The immediate interpretation of music, films and art as messages which are sent to you through the universe as a whole.
  • A perspective which feels personally responsible for the entirety of histories human suffering, as well as every single human act of love and technological achievement which our species has committed onto itself.
  • The obviousness of monogamy as a culturally bound tradition which stems from a combination of the ego’s sense of separateness from others and its deep psychological insecurities.
  • A perspective which feels as if death can finally be accepted. This is because it is no longer felt to be the destruction of the self but simply the end of this specific point of conscious awareness which will continue to live on through everything else which it resides in.

This is a component which can either be felt as a temporary sensation that disappears as the tripper sobers up or it can become integrated into a new perspective of the world for weeks, months or years after the experience itself.

It is seemingly completely spontaneous in its rate of occurrence but seems to be particularly common during states of level 7B visual geometry when the tripper is by themselves. It also seems to occur when deep introspection results in the tripper truly resolving and coming to terms with each of their specific sets of insecurities in a way that has allowed them to become finally acceptant and content with who they are as a person.

In terms of the specific substances which are capable of inducing this component, the list currently confirms that it is possible within,

Psilocin, 4-AcO-DMT, DMT, LSD, MDMA, Ketamine, DXM and Salvia divinorum.

Similar notions of unity and the illusory nature of the self seem to be discussed heavily throughout a huge variety of religious, philosophical and psychological sources, which have been produced across both modern and ancient human history. Each of these exist independently from the experience of hallucinogenic substances. I have done my best to collect and list all of these below:

  • The Buddhist phrase of anatta, which can be read about in detail here, specifically refers to the concept of “no-self”. This is the teaching that all things perceived by the senses (including the mental sense of thought) are not really “I” or “mine”, and for this reason one should not cling to them.
  • Monism which can be read about in detail here, is a philosophical position which argues that there is only one thing, which all things are not separate from but working together within as a unified system of behaviour.
  • The Hindu philosophy known as Nondualism can be read about in detail here. This is an idea which states that there is no difference between the concept of Brahman (the external environment) and Ātman (the self).
  • The formally defined world view known as Interconnectedness, which can be read about in detail here, defines itself as the idea that all things are of a single underlying substance and reality, and that there is no true separation deeper than appearances.
  • In psychology, egolessness, which can be read about in detail here, is an emotional state where one feels no ego (or self); of having no distinct being apart from the world around oneself. This is often described as feelings of oneness and being inextricably woven to the fabric of one’s surroundings or environment.
  • In Freudian psychology, oceanic feeling which can be read about in detail here, is described as a sensation of an indissoluble bond, as of being connected with the external world in its integral form which is considered to be the source of religious energy. From this perspective, the feeling is referred to as an entirely subjective fact and is not an article of faith.
  • The overview effect, which is described in detail within this documentary here, is a documented change in perspective experienced by astronauts who see the earth from above. It is described as perceiving the earth as a single unified system with which we are all a part of.
  • Alan Watts, a famous philosopher spoke extensively about the illusory nature of the self. His lectures are extremely informative and can be found in full through torrents on the pirate bay and in parts within many videos across Youtube. His book “The book on the taboo of knowing who you are” is dedicated to a formal explanation of the philosophies and logic behind this perspective and can be found within the form of a free PDF here.

My personal interpretation or description of the themes within these philosophies (which may well be overly simplified or completely wrong) is that the individual and the universe cannot be logically defined as separate systems. This is because, to define a physical object of any sort in even the most basic level of detail, you must also provide an account of the way in which it physically interacts with and is completely dependent on its particular external environment. In turn, the external environment which the original object resides within cannot be fully defined without taking into account the surrounding systems which it is also contained within and so on outwards to encompass existence as a whole. This renders the self or any individual concept as something which can not logically be defined as a contained and separate system from the rest of the universe.
In the very same way that you cannot logically have up without down, left without right, something without nothing, light without dark or positive without negative. You cannot have self without other or each without all because the two concepts inter-depend and exclusively exist in an inseparable and unified relationship to each other.
This suggests to me that one is permitted to use terms such as “I”, “you”, and so on, not because they refer to an empirical and separate self, but simply because they are convenient linguistic tools for use in conversation which should not be considered as anything more than a symbolic approximation or measurement.

Regardless of the legitimacy of these theistic and philosophical perspectives which may be inherently delusional or false, feelings of becoming “one with universe” which are pervasive within human culture, is undoubtedly one of the most profoundly positive changes in perspective that a human being could possibly go through.
Assuming however that this is a rational and logically sound perspective, I am left with two alternate hypotheses in regards to why this illusion seems to be so deeply embedded into each and everyone of us.
The first of these is that it perhaps this illusion formed because it is an evolutionary advantage for the ego to feel intrinsically separate from and more significant than, the external environment as a means of ensuring the motivation for survival. This was my previous theory but upon further analysis has proven implausible. I do not see any physical route through which a drug that simply activates or deactivates receptors could change something that is hard wired into the very structure of the brain.
The second of these personal hypotheses is that the illusion of separateness does not stem from a hardware problem but a software problem. I personally believe that unity may well be the default evolutionary perspective through which human beings originally operated, but it has been suppressed through a purely cultural or more specifically, linguistic problem. This could potentially stem from the way that despite the many obvious benefits of language, it pays a price through completely reorganizing our perception of the world into a system of intrinsically separate labels that in reality, are merely glimpses of a unified whole. It’s an overcoming of this deeply embedded illusion that hallucinogens could theoretically rise above through the way in which they forcibly induce embedded and otherwise hidden states of mind that exist within the subconscious.

If myself and the psychedelic community as a whole dedicate themselves to coming to a total understanding of this important component, the potential consequences could have historical significance. Were the subtle environmental triggers to be accurately determined, it would be theoretically possible to consistently induce permanent and all encompassing states of unity and interconnectedness in a clinical setting. This would provide the entirety of the human species to a total freedom from our psychological, unnecessary and purely ego driven suffering which consumes our entire perspective of the world.

If you have had any experience with this component whatsoever please do report this in the comment section below and the drug which it occurred on. This provides myself and everybody else with extremely valuable data and would be greatly appreciated.
