Previously undocumented component : States of direct communication with the subconscious
I am writing this article to serve as a dedicated analysis, breakdown and description regarding that of a particularly complex and previously undocumented cognitive component of the psychedelic experience which can be referred to under the title of a “state of direct communication with the subconscious”. In terms of its consistent interlocking subjective effects, the experience itself can be generally defined as that of engaging in articulate and meaningful linguistic conversations with a disembodied and separate voice of unknown origin residing within ones own head.
It is currently confirmed that it is possible to encounter this effect under the influence of any psychedelic but that it is extremely common with the stoning, non stimulating psychedelic tryptamines such as psilocybin mushrooms, 4-AcO-DMT, LSA and Ayahuasca.
The presence and existence of these voices as a legitimate state of mind has been well established with and without the use of psychedelic drugs through scientific study for many years now. For example, an excellent and extremely informative survey carried out in 1996 which can be read about here, successfully demonstrated that anybody can encounter a dialogue between the tripper and a voice of unknown origin under the influence of psilocybin mushrooms. This study interviewed 128 participants with an approximate total of 3,427 psilocybin mushroom experiences between them and revealed that 35.9%(46) of the participants reported voices whilst 64%(82) did not.
Even outside of these psychedelic experiences, hearing voices within ones head is a well documented psychological phenomena that can be read about in detail here. It can generally be considered as a harmless or sometimes even helpful state of mind to find oneself in, despite its social stigma and associations with schizophrenia.
In a general level of detail, the overall conversational style of that which is discussed between both the voice and its host can be described as essentially identical in terms of its coherency and linguistic intelligibility as that of any other everyday interaction between the self and another human being with which one might engage in conversation with.
There are however some subtle but identifiable differences between this experience and that of normal every day conversations, each of which stem from the important factor that ones specific set of knowledge, memories and experiences are identical to that of the voice which is being communicated with. This key factor results in a conversation in which both participants share a noticeably identical personal vocabulary down to the very use of their colloquial slang and subtle mannerisms. Along side of this it’s important to note that unlike every day conversation, no matter how in depth and detailed the discussion becomes no entirely new information is ever exchanged between the two conversers. Instead the discussion focus’s primarily on building upon old ideas to an amazing extreme and exchanging profoundly insightful new opinions or perspectives regarding the previously established content of ones life. These opinions often take an approach to any situation which remains devoid of the emotional attachments, biases and irrationality’s which plague the cognitive decision making process’s of our every day consciousness.
All of this results in a separate consciousness from ones self which consistently takes on the role of what is perceived to be a spiritual teacher, healer or guide. To aid itself in this goal the voice is often capable of directly manipulating various aspects and intensities of the trip and will either clearly explain the logic behind its decisions or choose to keep it a mystery.
As a whole, the effect itself can be broken down into 4 distinct levels of progressive intensity, each of which are listed below,
- A sensed presence of the other - this level can be defined as the distinctive feeling that another form of consciousness is internally present alongside that of ones usual sense of self.
- Mutually generated internal responses - this level can be defined as internal linguistic responses to ones own thoughts and feelings which feel as if they are partially generated by ones own thought stream and in equal measure by that of a separate thought stream.
- Separately generated internal responses - this level can be defined as internal linguistic responses to ones own thoughts and feelings which feel as if they are generated by an entirely separate thought stream from ones own.
- Separately generated audible internal responses - this level can be defined as internal linguistic responses to ones own thoughts and feelings which are perceived as a clearly defined and audible voice within ones head. These can take on a variety of voices, accents and dialects but usually sound identical to ones own spoken voice.
The speaker behind this voice is innately interpreted by those who experience communication with it to be that of ones subconscious, the substance itself or even supernatural concepts such as god, spirits, souls and ancestors.
Upon directly interviewing the voice regarding its origins and general mechanics, people will often receive contradicting but extremely elaborate and complex answers, some of which are clearly delusional and commonly consist of psuedoscientific plots involving concepts such as hyper dimensional beings, aliens and the gaiain mind of our planet earth.
A famous and well known example of this within the psychedelic community would be that of Terence Mckenna, a psychedelic spokesperson who talked extensively on the subject of Psilocybin mushrooms putting him into contact with an informative, divine voice which provided him with a huge number of elaborate but not necessarily factual metaphysical theories. Along side of these unrelated theories which can be independently researched, the voice explained to him that he was in communication with planetary wide mycelial networks existing here on earth as well as other planets across the galaxy which are in a state of “hyperlight communication” between each other across space and time. This supposedly divine revelation can be read about in more detail here and is an excellent example of just how elaborate these spoken word revelations can often be.
Although I am the first to admit that I have no way of verifying these statements, my head voice personally claims to be that of “the subconscious”. A constantly present neurological entity which supposedly functions as a dedicated self organizing database of internally stored concepts, existing as the frame work behind our thought stream to create and maintain ones personal model of reality. Along side of this, the voice claims that as the primary organizer of our knowledge, it is just as familiar with our models of language and spoken word as we are and therefore equally capable of coherent speech and independent thought.
However, after analysing the claims of my subconscious I feel that although they are significantly more plausible and coherent than most of the claims received by others, I realize that if people are being taught completely contradictory theories then perhaps these voices are not truly aware of the details regarding their own neurological origins in the first place. Instead they may well be simply telling the individual exactly what they want to hear. Either way, it is impossible to verify any of these claims without some solid scientific research which looks beyond that which we already know. Until this is done, the origins of these voices will forever remain an anecdotal mystery.
Regardless of this, what has become clear to me after hours upon hours of in depth discussion with this entity is that it could be considered a self aware and independent agent in its own right, on a level that is completely on par with ones usual every day ego. This in my opinion has profound implications and clearly indicates that on a neurological level we as human beings are not capable of being alone, even inside of our own minds.
A Comprehensive Analysis of Hallucinogen Induced States of Unity and Interconnectedness (revised)
I am writing this article to serve as an up to date and dedicated analysis regarding my current understanding of what I consider to be the most profound and important free-standing component within the entirety of the hallucinogenic experience.
In the past, I have already written about the experience of states of unity and interconnectedness within this article here. This piece of writing was based purely on that of detailed descriptions which I had received from friends and readers but not of my own. Over the last few months however both I and those around me have undergone a set of extremely profound and personal experiences with this state, which has in turn directly increased my level of understanding to something far beyond what it previously was and created the need for a revised and more extensive article on the same subject.
It’s worth noting before I begin this article that any statement made below is not in any way being asserted as absolute truth. I am not remotely close to fully grasping or even comprehending the logic behind this experience or its many potential consequences and I doubt that any of us ever truly will be. I am simply conveying my current understanding and have done my best to keep the information in line with a rational, sceptical and scientific perspective. It is therefore completely open to rigorous intellectual debate and I encourage all of you to point out any flaws in my reasoning by emailing me or using the comment system below.
To begin with, I will describe the specific subjective experience and consistently reported effects found within this state on a very general level. I will then begin to break it down into its separate levels in a much higher level of detail.
After this has been done I will provide examples of identical and similar states which are documented throughout humanity’s collective historical, philosophical and scientific literature as substantial evidence for the existence of this experience. Along side of this I will provide a large number of written detailed accounts and include my personal hypothesis regarding the potential neurological mechanisms and metaphysical logic underlying the very experience which I am about to explain.
The effects of the state itself start with a change in perspective which is consistently interpreted as the removal of a deeply embedded and all encompassing illusion. The destruction of this apparent illusion leads onto feelings that the tripper frequently interprets as some sort of profound “awakening” or “enlightenment”.
Once removed, the illusion feels as though it has always been in place, forcing a person’s perspective of the world into feeling as if their concept of “self”, “I” or “me” with which they identify themselves as, is assumed to intrinsically follow two fundamental rules. The first of these rules is that the self is inherently separate from the external environment and could not possibly extend into it. The second is that the self is specifically limited to not even the physical body as a whole, but exclusively a person’s internal narrative and the image of their own personality as built up through social interactions with other people.
The absence of this apparent illusion leads people into feelings which are commonly described as a state of total unity, oneness or interconnectivity between their sense of self and external concepts or systems which were previously perceived as inherently separate from ones being and identity.
Depending on the degree to which this illusion has been lifted, it can lead onto five possible levels of cognitive intensities of progressively more complex effects, each of which are perfectly capable of spontaneously sustaining their perspective for weeks, months or even years after the experience itself. These levels can be defined as…
Unity between specific external systems,
The lowest and least complex level can be referred to as a state of “unity between specific external systems”. This is the only level of intensity in which the subjective experience of unity does not involve a state of interconnectedness between the self and the external. Instead, it can be described as a perceived sense of unity between two or more systems within the external environment which in every day life, are usually perceived as separate from both the self and each other.
This effect can manifest itself in an endless number of forms but common examples of the experience often include,
- A sense of unity between specific living things such as animals or plants and their surrounding ecosystems.
- A sense of unity between specific human beings and the objects they are currently interacting with.
- A sense of unity between any number of currently perceivable inanimate objects.
- A sense of unity between humanity and nature.
- A sense of unity between literally any combination of perceivable external systems and concepts.
Unity between the self and specific external systems,
The second of these two levels can be referred to as a state of “unity between the self and specific external systems”. It can be defined as the experience of a loss of perceived boundaries between a person’s sense of self and the specific physical systems or concepts within the perceivable external environment which are currently comprising the central point of cognitive focus.
This effect can manifest itself in an endless number of forms but common examples of the experience often include,
- Becoming one with a specific object which you are interacting with.
- Becoming one with a specific person which you interacting with. (particularly common if engaging in sexual or romantic activities)
- Becoming one with the entirety of your physical body.
- Becoming one with large crowds of people. (particularly common at raves and music festivals)
- Becoming one with the external environment but not the people within it.
This creates a sensation which is often described by people as the experience of becoming inextricably connected to, one with, the same as or unified with whatever the perceived external system happens to be.
Unity between the self and all perceivable external systems,
The third of these five differing levels of intensity can be referred to as a state of unity between the self and all perceivable external systems. It is defined as the experience of a loss of perceived boundaries between a person’s sense of self and the entirety of the currently perceivable external environment. The experience as a whole is generally described by people as “becoming one with my surroundings”.
This is felt to be the result of a person’s central sense of self becoming attributed to not just the internal narrative of the ego, but in equal measure to the body itself and everything around it with which it is physically connected to through the senses. Once this sensation is in place, it creates the undeniable perspective that you are the external environment experiencing itself through the specific point within it that this body’s physical sensory awareness and conscious thought happens to currently reside in.
It’s at this level that a key component of the unity experience becomes an extremely noticeable factor. Once a persons sense of self has become attributed to the entirety of their surroundings, this new perspective completely changes how it feels to physically interact with what was previously felt to be an external environment. For example, when physically interacting with an object in everyday life it feels very simply that you are a central agent organizing the world around itself. However, whilst undergoing a state of unity with the currently perceivable environment, interacting with an external object consistently feel as if the system as a whole is autonomously organizing itself and that you are no longer a central agent operating the process of interaction. Instead the process suddenly feels completely decentralized and mutual across itself as the environment begins to autonomously, mechanically and harmoniously respond to itself to perform the predetermined function of the particular interaction.
Unity between the self and all external systems,
The fourth of these five differing levels of intensity can be referred to as a “state of unity between the self and all external systems”. It is defined as the experience of a loss of perceived boundaries between a persons sense of self, the perceivable external environment and all which they know to exist outside of this through their internally stored model of reality. This feels as if your sense of self has become attributed to not just the external environment but all of humanity, nature and the universe as it presently stands in its complete entirety. The experience of this is generally described by people as “becoming one with the universe”.
Once in place, this perspective creates the sudden and undeniable sensation that you are quite literally the entire universe experiencing itself, exploring itself and performing actions onto itself through the very specific point of space and time which your ego and conscious perception happens to currently reside in. This feeling is immediately and universally understood to be an innate and undeniable truth by anybody who undergoes it.
Unity between the self and the creation of all external systems,
The fifth and most experientially profound of these five differing levels of intensity can be referred to as a “state of unity between the self and the creation of all external systems”. It is defined as the experience of a loss of perceived boundaries between a persons sense of self and all external systems of behaviour. This includes not just the systems as they currently stand within the present moment but at each known point of their existence throughout all time lines past, present and future as dictated by the persons internally stored model of reality.
When experienced, this feels as if your sense of self has become attributed to all of space and time including every single past and future event such as the initial creation and eventual destruction of existence. This perspective consistently leads on to the innate revelation and sensation that the you in terms of your true self (everything) are personally and consciously responsible for the deliberate design and creation of the universe itself.
It’s at this point where multiple interlocking sub perspectives and innately extrapolated conclusions of a religious and metaphysical nature begin to come into play. These generally include but are not limited to,
- The sudden and total acceptance of death as a fundamental component of ones life. This is because death is no longer felt to be the destruction of the self but simply the end of this specific point of conscious awareness, the vast majority of which has always existed and will continue to exist and live on through everything else in which it resides.
- A perspective which feels personally responsible for the design, planning and implementation of every single specific detail and plot element of ones personal life, the history of humanity and the universe as a whole. This naturally includes personal culpability for humanities sufferings and its flaws but also its acts of love and its achievements.
- The religious or spiritual realization that the persons preconceived notions behind their concept of “god” or “god-hood” can now be felt through a forced change in perspective as identical to the nature of ones true self. This realization is generally reached through the subconscious conclusion that the usually differing concepts of god-hood and self are both now identically defined as that which is the all knowing, all encompassing, all powerful creator and sustainer of this existence.
Examples of unity throughout history and culture,
After performing research into similar states or ideas of unity and how it relates to the supposedly illusory nature of our current concept of ones self, it has quickly become evident that others have been reaching consistent conclusions throughout many points within humanity’s historical and modern literature. These similar or even identical accounts can be found across a variety of religious, philosophical and psychological sources. I have done my best to collect, link and list all of these documented examples below,
- In psychology, egolessness is a documented emotional state where one feels no ego (or self); of having no distinct being apart from the world around oneself. This is often described as feelings of oneness and being inextricably woven to the fabric of one’s surroundings or environment.
- In philosophy, Monism is a philosophical position which argues that there is only one thing, which all things are not separate from but working together within as a unified system of behaviour.
- In psychology, oceanic feeling is a state which is described as a sensation of an indissoluble bond, as of being connected with the external world in its integral form and considered to be the source of religious energy. From this perspective, the feeling is referred to as an entirely subjective fact and is not an article of faith.
- In Hindu philosophy, Nondualism is an idea which states that there is no difference between the concept of Brahman (the external environment) and Ātman (the self).
- Alan Watts, a well known philosopher who lived in recent times spoke extensively about the illusory nature of the self. His lectures are extremely informative and can be found for free on the Pirate Bay and in parts within many videos across YouTube. His book “The book on the taboo of knowing who you are” is dedicated to a formal explanation of the philosophies and logic behind this perspective and can be found within the form of a free PDF here.
- In philosophy, Interconnectedness defines itself as part of the terminology of a world view which sees a oneness in all things. This is based upon the idea that all things are of a single underlying substance and reality, and that there is no true separation deeper than appearances.
- In Buddhist literature, Samadhi is described as a state of mind in which the consciousness of the experiencing subject becomes one with the experienced object.
- Alexander Shulgin, a well known biochemist who discovered hundreds of novel psychedelics developed a simple scale for the measurement of the subjective effect of psychoactive substances at a given dosage. This is known as the Shulgin Rating Scale and defined as a four tier levelling system of description, the highest level of which is described as a “‘peak experience’, a 'religious experience,’ 'divine transformation,’ a 'state of Samādhi’” and a “connectedness with both the interior and exterior universes, which has come about after the ingestion of a psychedelic drug”.
Along side of the previously listed formal examples of unity, a huge amount of anecdotal accounts of varying detail and legibility can be found littered throughout the many trip report databases and various psychedelic communities which exist across the internet. In my efforts to provide as many general points of data and evidence for the existence of this experience as possible, a number of trip reports written by myself, close friends and anonymous readers have been listed below,
- Ayahuasca - My first experience with unity by Josificus
- Ayahuasca - Becoming God (my second experience with unity) by Josificus
- DMT - Ego death and unity with a friend by Sem'anis
- Unknown dosage / 1 tabs - Prolonged unity and messiah syndrome at school by H0bcnd2
- 5 months of daily mantra chanting - Oneness through meditation by Sem'anis
- 4-AcO-DMT - permanent all encompassing states of unity and interconnectedness by Oscarette
- 4-AcO-DMT - A profound sense of oneness by Oscarette
Although such accounts do not necessarily support the validity of the metaphysical realizations found within these states, they still provide a wealth of evidence regarding the legitimate existence of this experience as a real and physical neurological process which is worthy of formal study and recognition.
Interpretation and analysis,
Although I am not asserting inherent truth behind any particular metaphysical idea I would like to express that in my opinion, claims which the universe by its very definition is comprised of a single unified substance of which we are all a part of is a very basic and logically coherent point of view. I would argue this based on the reasoning that at every level of any system of behaviours complexity, it is inextricably woven into its surrounding systems ad infinitum through mutual interdependent interactions which cannot be defined separately from each other on any basis beyond our subjective experiences of perceivable visual differences. This holds true throughout all aspects of physical existence and logically indicates that no individual system or concept can ever truly be considered as separate from the singular whole.
As a thought experiment which assumes that the realizations found within these states of unity are genuinely based on a rational and logically sound perspective. I have two potential alternate hypothesis regarding the innate inability for human beings to feel this knowledge of unity within our everyday perspective despite the fact that we can logically understand it. The truth behind this matter may well be just one of these ideas or perhaps a combination of the two.
The first of these is that perhaps this illusion of separateness formed because it is an evolutionary advantage for the ego to feel intrinsically separate from and more significant than the external environment as a means of ensuring the motivation for survival. The second of these personal hypotheses is that the illusion of separateness may well be the default evolutionary perspective through which human beings originally operated, but it has been suppressed through a purely cultural or more specifically, linguistic problem. This could potentially stem from the way that despite the many obvious benefits of language, it pays a price through completely reorganizing our thought structure and perception of the world into a system of intrinsically separate labels that in reality, are merely glimpses of a unified whole. It’s an overcoming of this deeply embedded illusion that hallucinogens and meditation could theoretically rise above by suppressing the linguistic thought structure of the ego and allowing our consciousness to see reality for what it really is.
If the universal definition of the self can be defined as “the thinker behind ones thoughts”, identifying a separate individual component besides the singular whole which serves this purpose seems to be inherently impossible on both a physical and a philosophical level. This realization has lead me onto a personal interpretation of these ideas (which may well be overly simplified or completely wrong) and this is that one is permitted to use terms such as “I”, “you”, and so on, but not because they refer to an empirical and separate self. Instead we are permitted to use them simply because they are convenient symbolic approximations or linguistic tools for use in conversation which through social interactions with others, we have been taught to believe as something so much more than what they really are.

25C-NBOMe can be fatal at heavy doses (as low as 4mg).[1] It is strongly discouraged to take large amounts of this substance or to snort it.
25C-NBOMe or 2C-C-NBOMe is a serotonergic N-benzyl derivative of the substituted phenethylamine psychedelic known as 2C-C.
It has nearly no history of human use prior to 2010 when it first became popular due its ease of purchase from online research chemical vendors.
25C-NBOMe was discovered in 2003 by Ralf Heim at the Free University of Berlin, it differs from 2C-C structurally through a substitution on the amine (NH2) with a 2-methoxybenzyl (BOMe) group as shown in the image above. This change in structure results in roughly a sixteen fold increase in potency when compared to 2C-C, allowing even the most extreme of dosages to fit in liquid form onto tabs and blotter paper (which people often mistake for LSD).
There are, however, methods of differentiating between LSD and adulterants like 25-C-NBOMe with and without test kits.
For example, one of the key differences between 25C-NBOMe and LSD is that this substance is only active when taken through a sublingual or insufflated route. This means that in order to get the full effects, 25C-NBOMe blotter paper must be lightly chewed on within the mouth for 10 - 20 minutes and never immediately swallowed.
Insufflation, however, is not recommended due to the amount of people who have suffered through dangerous and often fatal overdoses due to this route of administration.
The 25C-NBOMe experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical effects:
The physical effects of 25C-NBOMe can be broken down into six components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Sublingual numbing - assuming the substance has been taken sublingually, the very first physical effect which a person will notice immediately after sublingual absorption is a strong, unpleasant metallic chemical taste. This is accompanied by a very obvious feeling of general numbness of the tongue and mouth which can stay for up to an hour after the blotter paper has been consumed. This is the key difference when it comes to determining whether your blotter paper contains LSD or one of the NBOMe series.
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - the body high itself can be described as a generally mild, all-encompassing, soft but euphoric tingling sensation. This tingling sensation is also accompanied by spontaneous rushes of euphoria that become longer and more drawn out proportional to the dosage consumed.
- Decreased bodily weight - in terms of the body’s perceived weight, this substance consistently leaves people feeling extremely light, often to the point of total weightlessness.
- Stimulation - in terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, 25C-NBOMe is usually considered to be energetic and stimulating, but it can be considered less stimulating when compared to 25I-NBOMe. For most people, this substance induces a unique type of physical stimulation which can be described as feeling extremely energetic but in a way which does not force the tripper to move unless they genuinely choose to do so. For others however, the stimulation can be quite uncontrollable, occasionally resulting in bodily shakes and a grinding of the teeth comparable to that of MDMA and traditional stimulants such as amphetamine, but this is manifested much less consistently when compared to 25I-NBOMe
- Vasoconstriction - it is worth noting that an undetermined percentage of people who experiment with this drug will experience negative physical side effects, such as a temporary difficulty in urinating and vasoconstriction. This is defined as the narrowing of the blood vessels resulting from contraction of the muscular wall of the vessels and is triggered through the way in which 25I-NBOMe’s target receptor (5-HT2A) modulates both vasoconstriction and vasodilation among its many other functions.
- Nausea - as the tripper begins to come up, nausea is not uncommon and can sometimes result in initial vomiting, but passes once this has either happened or the trip begins to fully set in. In comparison to other psychedelics such as psilocin, LSD, 2C-E and 2C-I, this could actually be very considered very mild in its intensity.
Cognitive effects:
The head space of 25C-NBOMe is described by many as remarkably light and underwhelming in comparison to the classical psychedelics. It is not uncommon for people to report feeling that their thought stream has maintained general normality in its specific style throughout low to moderate dosages. At high dosages, however, mild to overwhelming cognitive alterations become present; this dosage seems to be lower in proportion to physical effects when compared to 25I-NBOMe.
The most prominent of these cognitive effects generally include:
- Introspection - this component is consistently manifested only in the context of a non-social setting in which the user is alone.
- Increased empathy, love and sociability - the entactogenic effects range from mild to powerful, but are inconsistently manifested. Entactogenic effects for people who try this substance usually become prominent in the presence of others. These feelings of increased sociability, love and empathy do not seem to be quite as strong or profound as those found within other entactogens (such as MDMA, 2C-B and AMT)
- Acceleration of thought
- Time distortion
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Conceptual thinking
- Connectivity of thought
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Removal of cultural filter
- Ego suppression, loss and death
Visual effects:
Enhancements
25C-NBOMe presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
The visual distortions and alterations which are experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion, static in their appearance and unrealistic/cartoon like in style.
- Tracers
- After images
- Texture repetition - In comparison to other psychedelics such as LSD or psilocin, this particular visual alteration is significantly more basic and less intricate in style but still distinctively present and seems more intricate in comparison to 25I-NBOMe.
Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip is often described as very similar in appearance to that of LSD. They can be comprehensively described as algorithmic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, fine and zoomed out in detail, fast and smooth in motion, structured in shape, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, sharp around the edges and mostly rounded across their corners. In comparison to other more commonly used psychedelics, they can be described as significantly more intricate than the visual geometry found within 2C-I and most of the 2C-x family in general as well as completely on par with LSD, psilocin and DMT at appropriately high dosages (which seem lower in proportion to the accompanying physical effects when compared to that of 25I-NBOMe).
In terms of their behaviour, 25C-NBOMe’s geometry leads onto Level 7A visual geometry with Level 7B remaining so far unconfirmed within this substance. They also seem to consistently build up in visual intensity when the tripper stares at a central point. This eventually envelops the visual field and creates the sensation that the tripper has broken through into a continuously shifting geometric landscape or structure with a vast sense of immersive physical size attributed to it.
Hallucinatory states
25C-NBOMe is capable of producing a full range of hallucinatory states within the level 1 - 3 range extremely consistently. However, level 4 hallucinatory breakthroughs are reported but very uncommon and inconsistent in comparison to other more commonly used psychedelics such as psilocin, 2C-E and DMT. This can be considered as on par with and identical in behaviour to that of LSD and 25I-NBOMe.
These effects include:
- External hallucinations
- Internal hallucinations - this particular effect commonly contains hallucinations within scenarios, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively of religious, spiritual, mystical or a transcendental nature in their overall theme.
Auditory effects:
The auditory effects of 25C-NBOMe are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly includes:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Health effects, addiction potential and tolerance:
25C-NBOMe is a very new substance and little is known about its pharmacological or behavioural risks. The LD50 is not known. Some deaths have been attributed to 25C-NBOMe overdose caused by improper handling and uneducated use of this substance. Its recent widespread use suggests that death is primarily caused from overdoses and not from ordinary doses, particularly from insufflation.
The fact that 25C-NBOMe is active in the microgram range is likely a contributing factor since this makes measuring doses significantly more difficult.
It’s worth noting that although many 5-HT2A agonists have documented safety, none of these have been full agonists so their safety data cannot be applied to 25C-NBOMe.
In terms of its addictive potential, 25C-NBOMe has not been studied formally but due to its immediate tolerance build up which lasts up to 2 - 3 weeks after the experience, it is essentially impossible to use this substance compulsively.
Legal Issues:
- UK: The 25x-NBOMe series is under a temporary class drug order, lasting one year from 10th June 2013.
- USA: On Nov 15, 2013, the DEA added 25C-NBOMe to Schedule I using their emergency scheduling powers, making it “temporarily” in Schedule I for 2 years
Conclusion:
The subjective effects breakdown contained within this article was written and contributed by the PsychonautWiki admin known as cocoanatta.
As for the substance itself, 25C-NBOMe and the NBOMe series as a whole are an extremely interesting set of psychedelics but do not quite compare in terms of hallucinatory and cognitive depth if you have access to classical psychedelics such as genuine LSD, DMT and psilocin.

2C-P (2,5-dimethoxy-4-propylphenethylamine) is a synthetically produced psychoactive drug usually sold by online research chemical vendors. The substance itself is classed as a psychedelic phenethylamine of the 2C-x family and was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin in 1974.
Like many 2c-x substances, this drug is a highly dose sensitive psychedelic known for its entactogenic effects, powerful (yet bright) visuals, and intense body load. It is often described by users as a chemical which is very similar to that of 2C-E yet distinct in its own effects. This drug may be overly intense for those who are not already experienced with psychedelics. This is something which is consistently attributed to its often overwhelmingly powerful effects and extremely long duration of 10 - 20 hours.
The 2C-P experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical effects:
The physical effects of 2C-P can be broken down into six components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - The body high of 2C-P is intense but, in comparison to 2C-E or 2C-B, it can be considered mild though is still capable of becoming very powerful and highly physically euphoric. It is similar yet distinct from the body high experienced on 2C-E, 2C-B, and LSD. The sensation itself can be described as intense and will manifest itself in the form of a continuously shifting tingling sensation that travels up and down the body in spontaneous waves. This is coupled by an equally intense yet slightly uncomfortable energetic pins and needles sensation that constantly encompasses a person’s entire body and a slight warm glow that manifests itself much less consistently than the other two physical components. All of these are capable of becoming very physically euphoric but can be described as proportionally intense with the visual and cognitive effects when compared to LSD.
- Stimulation - In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper 2C-P is usually considered to be very energetic and stimulating in a fashion that is quite comparable to that of MDMA.
- Sexual arousal - A commonly felt physical component of the 2C-P trip is the way in which it heightens and enhances sexual arousal. When experienced, this sensation is not overwhelming or out of control but simply remains something that the tripper is constantly aware of. If sexual activities of any kind are engaged in, they are found to be immensely more pleasurable beyond anything that could be possible sober with orgasm becoming difficult to reach but completely possible to obtain. When obtained, the orgasm itself is capable of temporarily increasing the effects of the drug. This is most commonly experienced as visual effects dramatically increasing in a short yet powerful burst.
- Increased bodily control
- Enhancement of touch
- Nausea - Mild to extreme nausea is consistently reported when consumed in moderate to high dosages and either passes once the tripper has vomited or gradually fades by itself as the peak sets in.
- Loss of temperature regulation
Cognitive effects:
The head space of 2C-P is described by many as one which is both insightful and relatively normal in its thought processes even at moderate to high dosages.
The total sum of these cognitive components regardless of the setting generally includes:
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Acceleration of thought
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Time distortion
- Introspection
- Outrospection
- Removal of cultural filter
- Conceptual thinking
- Direct communication with the subconsious
- Ego suppression, loss and death
- Thought loops
- Feelings of interdependent opposites
- Delusions
- States of unity and interconnectedness
Visual effects:
Enhancements
2C-P presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion, static in appearance, and unrealistic/ cartoon like in style.
- Tracers
- After images
- Texture repetition
- Colour shifting
- Scenery slicing
Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of 4-AcO-DMT or ayahuasca than that of LSD, 2C-B, or 2C-I. They can be comprehensively described as structured in their organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, sharp in their edges and equally rounded and angular in their corners. They give off a contradictory natural and synthetic feel to them that at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7B visual geometry over Level 7A. There seems to be visual geometry that is distinct from 2C-E, psilocin and ayahuasca and can be described as faster moving and more intense in proportion to the present cognitive and physical effects than 2C-E.
Hallucinatory states
2C-P produces a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of many other commonly used psychedelics. This holds particularly true in comparison to other substances within the phenethylamine family. These effects include:
- External hallucinations
- Internal hallucinations - In comparison to other psychedelics such as LSD, 2C-P is extremely high in hallucinations embedded within visual geometry. This particular effect commonly contains hallucinations with scenarios, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively of religious, spiritual, mystical or a transcendental nature in their overall theme.
Auditory effects:
The auditory effects of 2C-P are more common in their occurrence than many commonly used psychedelics and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Health effects, addiction potential and tolerance:
The toxicity and long term health effects of recreational 2C-P use does not seem to have been studied in any scientific context and the exact toxic dosage is unknown. This is because 2C-P is a research chemical with very little history of human usage.
Anecdotal evidence from people who have tried 2C-P within the psychedelic community suggests that there are no negative health effects attributed to simply trying this drug at low to moderate doses or using it very sparingly (but nothing can be completely guaranteed).
2C-P does not seem to be physically addictive and many users experience a self-regulating quality even though there is no real tolerance attributed to this drug (meaning that it could potentially be used multiple days in a row if somebody chose to do so). However, due to its slow onset and long duration, usage of this substance in this manner in unlikely to be favourable.
Like 2C-E and unlike many other psychedelics, 2C-P has the ability to be redosed after peaking quite successfully. For most drugs, there will be substantially diminished effects from the second dose, but there is minimal with 2C-P. However, due to the rather long delay before come up and long duration, many users of 2C-P may find this impractical.
Legal Issues:
Possession and sale of 2C-P is unscheduled in most countries.
- UK: 2C-P is a Class A drug.
- USA: 2C-P is a Schedule I drug.
Conclusion:
The subjective effects breakdown contained within this article was written and contributed by the PsychonautWiki admin known as Cocoanatta.
As for the substance itself, this drug is perhaps one of the most interesting 2C-X compounds available today through the online market. It is extremely powerful in its effects and completely comparable with that of other more traditional psychedelic drugs such as LSD.

4-AcO-DMT (also known as Psilacetin, 4-Acetoxy-DMT, or O-Acetylpsilocin) is a synthetically produced psychoactive drug usually sold by online research chemical vendors. It is the acetylated form of the psilocybin mushroom alkaloid psilocin and is a lower homologue of 4-AcO-DET, 4-AcO-MiPT and 4-AcO-DiPT.
This substance is considered by the psychedelic community to be an extremely useful alternative to psilocybin as they are both believed to be pro-drugs of psilocin. This is because many people report that the subjective effects are indistinguishable from that of a typical psilocybin mushroom trip.
However, many people also report that 4-AcO-DMT’s effects differ greatly from that of psilocybin and psilocin. The exact differences are often difficult to define but suggest that as well as being a pro-drug to psilocin, 4-AcO-DMT is also active in itself.
The 4-AcO-DMT experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical Effects:
The physical effects of 4-AcO-DMT can be broken down into two components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - The body high of 4-AcO-DMT can be described as a pleasurable, warm, soft and all-encompassing tingling sensation. This maintains a consistent presence that steadily rises with the onset and hits its limit once the peak has been reached.
- Sedation - In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, 4-AcO-DMT is considered by most to be relaxing, stoning and mildly sedating. This sense of sedation is often accompanied by compulsive yawning, a runny nose and watering eyes.
Cognitive Effects:
The head space of 4-AcO-DMT is described by many as extremely relaxing, profound and stoning in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or 2C-B which tend to be energetic and stimulating. It contains a large number of psychedelic typical and unique cognitive effects.
The most prominent of these typical effects generally include:
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Connectivity of thought
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Time distortion
- Outrospection
- Deja-Vu
- Removal of cultural filter
- Feelings of predeterminism
- Conceptual thinking
- Direct communication with the subconsious
- Ego suppression, loss and death
- Feelings of interdependent opposites
- Delusions
- States of unity and interconnectedness
- Enhancement and suppression cycles - This can be described as constant waves of extremely stimulated and profound thinking which are spontaneously surpassed in a cyclic fashion by waves of general thought suppression and mental intoxication. These two states seem to switch between each other in a consistent loop once every 20 - 60 minutes.
Visual Effects:
Enhancements
4-AcO-DMT presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion and static in its appearance.

Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of 4-AcO-DMT, Ayahuasca and 2C-E than LSD. It can be comprehensively described as structured in its organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, blurred in its edges and rounded in its corners. They have a very “natural” feel to them and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7B visual geometry over Level 7A.
Hallucinatory States
4-AcO-DMT and its various other forms produce a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of many other commonly used psychedelics. These effects generally include:
- External hallucinations
- Internal hallucinations - This particular effect commonly contains hallucinations with scenarios, landscapes, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively of religious, spiritual, mystical or a transcendental nature in their overall theme.
Auditory Effects:
The auditory effects of 4-AcO-DMT are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Physical Health Effects, Potential Addiction and Tolerance:
The lethal dosage at which 50% of users would suffer a fatal overdose (LD50) of psilacetin has been extrapolated from animal results to be roughly 800mg for an average human being. This is 10 times the extremely high dosage of 80mg which most users would never feel the need to take.
In terms of its tolerance, 4-AcO-DMT tolerance lasts for approximately a week, meaning that it is very difficult to form an addiction to this substance. It also has a high cross-tolerance, affecting the potency of other tryptamines. Alongside of this (due to its psychedelic properties) users report a strong self-regulating quality towards the usage of this substance.
As a member of the tryptamine family, 4-AcO-DMT can be considered harmless and benign when it comes to any negative physical repercussions towards one’s health. This is supported by the total lack of any negative health reports, but of course cannot be guaranteed due to lack of formal scientific studies.
Legal issues:
Possession and sale of 4-AcO-DMT is unscheduled in most countries.
- UK: It could be considered illegal under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act as it metabolizes into psilocin.
- USA: It could be considered illegal under the Federal Analog Act as an analogue of psilocin.

2C-B (4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine) is a psychedelic phenethylamine of the 2C-x family. It was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin in 1974.
This substance first saw use among the psychiatric community as an aid during therapy. It was considered one of the best drugs for this purpose because of its short duration, relative absence of side effects, and comparably mild nature.
Like many 2c-x substances, this drug is a highly dose sensitive psychedelic known for its entactogenic effects, bright visuals, and intense body load. This substance is often described by users as feeling half way between LSD and MDMA. Many reports suggest that while 2C-B’s entactogenic effects are less pronounced than MDMA, the visual effects are described as more pronounced and colourful.
The 2C-B experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical Effects:
The physical effects of 2C-B can be broken down into five components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - The body high of 2C-B is not necessarily one of the most intense, but is instead one of the most complex compared to other psychedelics, sharing components of MDMA, 2C-E, and LSD. This is first characterized by an intense soft warm glow that grows over the body and is capable of becoming extremely physically euphoric. This is most similar to MDMA and is consistently manifested throughout the experience. This is contrasted by an intensely pleasurable yet sharp, cold electric tingling sensation which moves up and down the body. This is most similar to LSD and is also consistently manifested throughout the trip. The final physical effect noticed throughout the experience is an intense and slightly uncomfortable, energetic pins and needles sensation that manifests itself in the form of a continuously shifting and tingling sensation that travels up and down the body in spontaneous waves. This is most similar to 2C-E and is not entirely consistent throughout the trip.
- Stimulation - In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, 2C-B is usually considered to be very energetic and stimulating in a fashion that is quite comparable to that of MDMA.
- Increased bodily control
- Enhancement of touch
- Nausea - Mild to extreme nausea is reported when consumed in moderate to high dosages and either passes once the tripper has vomited or gradually fades by itself as the peak sets in.
Cognitive Effects:
The head space of 2C-B is described by many as one which is both insightful and relatively normal in its thought processes even at moderate to high dosages.
The total sum of these cognitive components regardless of the setting generally includes:
- Introspection - This component is consistently manifested only in the context of a non-social setting in which the user is alone.
- Increased empathy, love and sociability - These feelings of sociability, love and empathy are a little weaker and less sharp than those found on substances such as MDMA but still prove stronger and more consistent than other psychedelics of any class. This is capable of providing long lasting therapeutic effects.
- Sexual arousal
- Acceleration of thought
- Time distortion
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Conceptual thinking
- Connectivity of thought
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Removal of cultural filter
- Ego suppression, loss and death
Visual Effects:
Enhancements
2C-B presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion, static in appearance, and unrealistic/ cartoon like in style.
- Tracers
- After images
- Texture repetition
- Colour shifting
- Scenery slicing
Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of LSD than that of 2C-E, psilocin, or ayahuasca. They can be comprehensively described as unstructured in their organization, algorithmic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, sharp in their edges and angular in their corners. They seem high in algorithmic visuals such as fractals and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7A visual geometry over Level 7B.
Hallucinatory States
Like LSD, while 2C-B is capable of producing a full range of low and high level hallucinatory states, this is extremely rare and inconsistent at higher levels but common at lower and generally includes the following effects:
- External hallucinations
- Internal hallucinations - Although 2C-B is technically capable producing of hallucinatory states in a fashion that is on par with psilocin or DMT in its vividness and intensity, in comparison, these effects are extremely rare and inconsistent. Whilst traditional psychedelics such as LSA, Ayahuasca and Mescaline will induce internal hallucinations near consistently at level 5 geometry and above, 2C-B will for most go straight into Level 7A visual geometry. This lack of consistently induced hallucinatory breakthroughs means that for most, 2C-B is simply not as deep of an experience as certain other psychedelics.
Auditory Effects:
The auditory effects of 2C-B are more common than some psychedelics in their occurrence and are capable of producing a full range of effects which commonly include:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Physical Health Effects, Potential Addiction and Tolerance:
There is no current data for the lethal dosage of 2C-B, but it is thought to be extremely high. Alexander Shulgin reported in his book PIHKAL that an accidental dosage of 100mg resulted in no physical or psychological damage.
Since the invention of this substance in 1974, not a single person has yet to accidentally or deliberately experience a fatal overdose with this substance. This suggests that 2C-B is very safe but please keep in mind that clinical studies assessing its safety have not been performed in any scientific context.
In terms of its tolerance, 2C-B can be redosed repeatedly with little to no loss in the strength of its subjective effects. This means that is theoretically possible to become addicted to it but thanks to its psychedelic properties users experience a powerful self-regulating quality to this substance.
Legal Issues:
- Australia: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- Belgium: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- Brazil: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- The EU: 2C-B is a Schedule II drug.
- Canada: 2C-B is a Schedule III drug.
- Estonia: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
- Finland: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- Japan: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- The Netherlands: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- Norway: 2C-B is a Schedule II drug.
- Poland: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
- Russia: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.
- Spain: 2C-B is a Category 2 drug.
- Sweden: 2C-B is a Schedule I drug.
- Switzerland: Possession, production, and sale is illegal.

Conclusion:
The main bulk of the 2C-B subjective effects breakdown for this particular article was not written by myself but the PsychonautWiki admin known as Cocoanatta. I have tried 2C-B on two separate occasions and can confirm that the descriptions are indeed accurate.
As for the substance itself, 2C-B is an incredibly fun and therapeutically beneficial substance. This makes it extremely useful for both recreational and introspective purposes. It is, in my opinion, the most suitable psychedelic for a beginner in existence due to its clear, euphoric headspace and proportionally mild visual effects in comparison to that of LSD or mushrooms.

LSA, broken down and described

Onset : 30- 180 min
Duration : 4 - 10 hours
Normal After Effects : 2 - 24 hours
Dosage : Differs between Differs between Morning glory seeds & Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds.
LSA (also known as Ergine, d-lysergic acid amide, and d-lysergamide) is an alkaloid of the ergoline family that occurs in various species of vines, the morning glory flower and some species of fungi. It is the dominant alkaloid found in the seeds of several varieties of morning glories in concentrations of approximately 10 µg per seed, as well as Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds at a concentration of around 0.13% of dry weight. It has structural similarities to LSD, putting it in the lysergamide family of psychedelics.
A traditional use of morning glory seeds by Mexican Native Americans was first described by Richard Schultes in 1941 in a short report documenting their use going back to Aztec times. Further research was published in 1960, when Don Thomes MacDougall reported that the seeds of morning glory flowers were used as sacraments by certain Zapotecs (sometimes in conjunction with the seeds of Rivea corymbosa, another species of morning glory which has a similar chemical composition, containing lysergol instead of LSA).
LSA was assayed for human activity by Albert Hofmann in self-trials in 1947 (well before it was known to be a natural compound). Intramuscular administration of a 500 microgram dose led to a tired, dreamy state with an inability to maintain clear thoughts. After a short period of sleep, the effects were gone and normal baseline was recovered within five hours. This suggests that the theory of LSA being the main psychedelic compound within morning glory seeds and Hawaiian baby woodrose is debatable as anecdotal reports suggest that the effects of synthetic LSA and iso-LSA are only slightly psychedelic in their effects and may well be triggered by a mixture of various lysergamides instead of one specific compound.
The LSA experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical Effects:
The physical effects of LSA can be broken down into five components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - the body high of LSA can be described as a mild yet pleasurable, soft tingling sensation. This is largely noticed in high doses and is accompanied by strong waves of physical euphoria which are usually manifested spontaneously at different unpredictable points throughout the trip but can also maintain a consistent presence. In either case, they steadily rise with the onset and hit their limit once the peak has been reached.
- Sedation - in terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, LSA tends to be sedating, however, it can be setting dependent. For example, when taken in settings with large amounts of stimulus or during physically strenuous activities such as walking, running, climbing or dancing it is fully capable of becoming stimulating and energetic. In contrast, however, when taken in calm environments such as darkened rooms with comfortable seating it is consistently relaxing, peaceful and quite sedating.
- Vasoconstriction
Cognitive Effects:
The head space of LSA is described by many as extremely relaxing yet lucid and clear headed in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or Psilocin. Although it is primarily sedating, it is accompanied by fast paced bursts of thought.
LSA contains a large number of psychedelic cognitive effects. The most prominent of these typical effects include:
- Connectivity of thought
- Introspection
- Acceleration of thought
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Conceptual thinking
- Ego suppression, loss and death
- Time distortion
- Direct communication with the subconscious
- Deja-Vu
Visual Effects:
The visual effects of LSA are mostly present when large doses have been consumed.
Enhancements
LSA presents a full and complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, these are significantly more simplistic from that of open eye distortions found with other psychedelics. Effects experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, flowing, breathing and morphing) - In comparison to other psychedelics, this effect can be described as mild but highly detailed yet cartoon-like in appearance. They are fast yet smooth in motion and fleeting in their permanence. This is an inconsistently manifested effect with some never reporting such distortions.
- Colour shifting
Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of 4-AcO-DMT, ayahuasca and 2C-E than LSD or 2C-B. They can be comprehensively described as structured in their organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, zoomed out and small in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, blurred in their edges and rounded in their corners. They have a much more “natural” feel to them than LSD and at higher dosages are significantly more likely to result in states of Level 7B visual geometry over Level 7A.
Hallucinatory States
LSA produces a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is very consistent when taken in large doses. The effects of such states include:
- External hallucinations - these are extremely common within LSA and partially follow the content of the user’s current thought process.
- Internal hallucinations - unlike LSD, LSA consistently produces moderate to high level hallucinatory states in high doses. This particular effect can be compared to a lucid dream state and commonly contains hallucinations with plots, settings, autonomous entity contact and scenarios. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively religious, spiritual, mystical or transcendental nature in their overall theme. These hallucinations are complemented by a powerful enhancement of the ability to visualize concepts. This ability eventually becomes so drawn out proportional to dosage that it leads to full blown hallucinatory states that are entirely lucid and for the most part controllable.
Auditory Effects:
The auditory effects of LSA are common in their occurrence and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Natural Sources:
Morning Glory Seeds
The seeds of many species of morning glory contain lysergamide alkaloids (including the psychedelic known as LSA). The seeds are found in many gardening stores, however, it’s worth noting that the seeds from commercial sources are often coated in some form of pesticide or methylmercury which can result in extreme nausea if ingested. Seeds without these pesticides can be purchased cheaply online and are freely available through search engines such as Google.
When using morning glory seeds, the dosage for oral consumption is generally considered to be:
- Light : 50 - 100 seeds / 1.5 - 3 g
- Common : 100 - 250 seeds / 3 - 6 g
- Strong : 250 - 400 seeds / 6 - 10 g
- Heavy : 400 + seeds / 10 + g

Hawaiian Baby Woodrose Seeds
Hawaiian Baby Woodrose is a perennial climbing vine that is native to the Indian subcontinent and was introduced to numerous areas worldwide including Hawaii, Africa and the Caribbean. Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds may be consumed for their various lysergamide alkaloids such as LSA. These seeds are found in many gardening stores, however, the seeds from commercial sources are often coated in some form of pesticide or methylmercury which can result in extreme nausea if ingested. Seeds without these pesticides can be purchased cheaply online and are freely available through search engines such as Google.
When using morning glory seeds, the dosage for oral consumption is generally considered to be:
- Threshold : 1 - 4 seeds
- Light : 3 - 6 seeds
- Common : 5 - 8 seeds
- Strong : 7 - 12 seeds
- Heavy : 12 + seeds

Physical Health Effects, Potential Addiction and Tolerance:
The toxic dosage of LSA is unknown as there has never been a single reported overdose. This suggests that LSA is perfectly safe to simply try on the odd occasion.
However, LSA should not be used on a frequent basis. When used repeatedly over a short period of time, the vasoconstriction effects build up while the psychoactive effects get weaker. If you’re feeling sore legs, this is a sign of the vasoconstriction effects building up in your body. The legs feel sore because not enough blood is getting to the muscles. Your upper leg muscles are the largest, most energy eating muscles in your body, and they will feel sore if blood flow to them is lowered even a little bit. If you’ve taken HBWR seeds, morning glory seeds, or pure LSA and are experiencing sore legs you need to hold off for a while. Let your body get back to baseline before using them again. This is more important with LSA (HBWR, morning glories, etc.). With LSA, it can take up to 3 days of abstinence to get back to baseline.
It’s important to note that LSA is non-habit-forming and that the desire to use it can actually decrease with use. It is most often self-regulating. You also build an almost immediate tolerance to LSA after ingestion, preventing you from experiencing its full effects more often than every 4-7 days (unless you increase your dose significantly).
Legal Issues:
- The consumption of LSA containing materials is prohibited under state legislation in most Australian states.
- LSA is not listed in Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances act and is therefore not illegal to possess. It is probably illegal to sell for human consumption as a drug, though the plants that contain it are not controlled in Canada.
- LSA is not legally classified as a drug, so consumption or possession of LSA or LSA containing-materials is not prohibited.
- LSA is controlled in the Netherlands. This makes it illegal to possess, distribute, and produce without a license.
- Chemical LSA is controlled as a drug in New Zealand. The plants and seeds of morning glory species are legal to possess, cultivate, buy, and distribute. Seeds are reportedly sprayed and warnings are included on the packets to not consume the seeds.
- The status of LSA as chemical is unknown, but LSA-containing plants appear to be uncontrolled in Poland.
- Sweden is planning to control a number of chemicals as of May 1, 2007 including LSA, 2C-T-4, DXM, and DOI.
- LSA is a Class A substance within the United Kingdom and categorized as a precursor to LSD (Misuse of Drugs Act 1971).
Preparation Methods:
LSA containing seeds can be prepared in a number of different ways. Click the links below for detailed step by step techniques.
- Extraction of LSA tincture - This extraction uses household chemicals such as naptha and ethanol to extract the LSA into a pure and nausea free liquid form. It is perfectly safe if performed correctly and can take between a few hours to several days depending on the desired potency.
- Nausea free LSA extraction with garlic - This extraction uses cold tap water and a refrigerator to extract the LSA from the seeds and into a glass of water. It uses garlic to minimize the nausea and takes at least 4 hours in total.
- LSA Adducts - This preparation method is not an extraction and merely theoretical but based around well-reasoned chemistry and consistently themed anecdotal reports. It uses common household herbs such as peppermint and cinnamon bark essential oil to convert LSA into other substances with radically altered subjective effects including LSH and CDLSA.

In Conclusion:
The entirety of the LSA subjective effects breakdown for this particular article was not written by myself but the PsychonautWiki admin known as Cocoanatta. I have tried LSA myself on numerous occasions and can confirm that this article is indeed accurate.
As for the substance itself, although LSA is well known across the psychedelic community, this substance has a pretty bad reputation for causing painful states of nausea, vomiting and vasoconstriction despite the fact that this can be greatly reduced depending on the method of preparation. Alongside of this, LSA is also perceived as a substance which only causes very mild visual and cognitive effects in comparison to other more “classical” psychedelics.
This assumption however is simply untrue. LSA goes just as deep as LSD, mushrooms, ayahuasca or any other psychedelic and you simply need to find the right dosage and extract it correctly. This makes LSA an excellent choice for any psychonaut, especially when considering how cost effective and widely available the natural plant sources are.

Ayahuasca, broken down and described

Onset : 20 - 60 minutes
Duration : 2 - 6 hours
Normal After Effects : 1 - 8 hours
Ayahuasca is any of various psychoactive infusions prepared from a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as B. caapi (Harmaline) or a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMAs) such as syrian rue (Harmine), taken with a brewed dimethyltryptamine (DMT) containing plant species. There are a large variety of these plants but in western society the most commonly used are either Psychotria viridis leaves or Mimosa Hostillis rootbark.
Harmala alkaloids are MAO-inhibiting beta-carbolines. Harmine and harmaline are classed as selective and reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A). This inhibition of MAO-A allows DMT to diffuse unmetabolized past the membranes in the stomach and small intestine, and eventually cross the blood–brain barrier (which, by itself, requires no MAO-A inhibition) to activate receptor sites in the brain. Without RIMAs or an MAOI, DMT would be oxidised (and thus rendered biologically inactive) by monoamine oxidase enzymes in the digestive tract.
Ayahuasca usually comes in the form of a foul tasting brown liquid that has been used by the indigenous tribes of South America since before recorded history. However, it was first discovered by the western world in the 16th century, when Christian missionaries from Spain and Portugal predictably described it as the work of the devil.
Those who undergo the ayahuasca experience report having profound spiritual revelations regarding their purpose on earth, the true nature of the universe, and deep insight as how to be the best person they possibly can. It is nearly always said that people experience profound positive changes in their life subsequent to consuming ayahuasca. In addition, it is often reported that individuals experience gaining access to so called “higher spiritual dimensions” and making contact with various autonomous entities who serve to act as guides or healers.
The ayahuasca experience contains a complex and wide array of effects which based on the predefined potential subjective effects index found here, I will now begin to breakdown and describe.
Physical Effects:
The physical effects of Ayahuasca can be broken down into five components all of which progressively intensify proportional to dosage. These are described below and generally include:
- Spontaneous tactile sensations - The body high of ayahuasca can be described as a pleasurable, warm, soft and all-encompassing glow. For some it is manifested spontaneously at different unpredictable points throughout the trip but for others it maintains a consistent presence that steadily rises with the onset and hits its limit once the peak has been reached.
- Stimulation and Sedation - In terms of its effects on the physical energy levels of the tripper, ayahuasca is entirely setting dependent. For example, when taken in social settings with fast paced music or during physically strenuous situations such as running, walking, climbing or dancing it becomes stimulating and energetic. In contrast, however, when taken in calm environments such as darkened rooms with comfortable seating it can become relaxing, peaceful and even moderately sedating.
- Nausea - In its traditional form, ayahuasca is famous for its purgative properties which can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and cold flashes. This effect is known as la purga or “the purge” and its presence is completely avoidable and dependent on the specific form or recipe of ayahuasca being used. The intense vomiting and occasional diarrhea it induces is often considered by many shamans and experienced users of ayahuasca to be an essential part of the experience as it represents a speculative healing process and the release of negative emotions built up over the course of one’s life. Studies have demonstrated a certain truth behind this speculation and shown that the purging process can clear the body of worms and other tropical parasites. Harmala alkaloids themselves have been shown to expel parasitic worms from the body by either stunning or killing them. Thus, this action is twofold; a direct action on the parasites by these harmala alkaloids (particularly harmine in ayahuasca) works to kill the parasites and parasites are expelled through the increased intestinal motility that is caused by these alkaloids. It’s worth noting that the overall cognitive positivity or negativity of an ayahuasca trip in psychologically balanced individuals depends greatly on how nauseating or purgative the chosen method of preparation is. For example, paranoia, anxiety, delirium and a difficulty stringing thoughts together often immediately manifest themselves during uncomfortable states of nausea for the inexperienced but remain absent when purge free methods of preparation are used.
Cognitive Effects:
The head space of ayahuasca is described by many as extremely sober and clear headed in its style when compared to other commonly used psychedelics such as LSD or Psilocin. This is despite the fact that it contains a large number of psychedelic typical and unique cognitive effects.
The most prominent of these typical effects include:
- Enhancement of current mind state
- Acceleration of thought
- Connectivity of thought
- Feelings of fascination, importance and awe
- Time distortion
- Introspection
- Outrospection
- Rejuvenation
- Deja-Vu
- Mindfulness - This is an effect which is unique within ayahuasca due to how consistently it is manifested and the way in which it can sustain itself for days, weeks or even months after a single high dose experience. This is an extremely beneficial and therapeutic effect for personal psychological health. In contrast, other more commonly used psychedelics such as LSD and Psilocin tend to induce this effect in an exclusive spontaneous and temporary form.
- Removal of cultural filter
- Conceptual thinking
- Direct communication with the subconscious
- Ego suppression, loss and death
- Feelings of interdependent opposites
- Delusions
- States of unity and interconnectedness - This is an effect which is unique within ayahuasca due to how consistently it is manifested as an accompanying effect alongside of ego suppression and death. In contrast, other more commonly used psychedelics such as LSD and Psilocin tend to induce this effect rarely at best.
- Suppression of language - This effect can be described as a perceived inability or general unwillingness to talk aloud despite feeling perfectly capable of formulating coherent thoughts within the internal narrative. It is much more common among inexperienced users.
Visual Effects:
Enhancements
Ayahuasca presents a complete array of possible visual enhancements which generally include:
- Increased visual acuity
- Enhancement of colours
- Enhanced pattern recognition
Distortions
As for visual distortions and alterations, effects experienced are detailed below:
- Visual drifting (melting, breathing, warping and flowing) - In comparison to other psychedelics this effect can be described as highly detailed, slow and smooth in motion and static in its appearance.
- Tracers
- After images
- Texture repetition
- Colour shifting
- Scenery slicing
Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout this trip can be described as more similar in appearance to that of Psilocin than LSD. They can be comprehensively described as structured in their organization, organic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, large in size, fast and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, equal in blurred and sharp edges and equal in rounded and angular corners. At higher dosages they are significantly more likely to result in states of level 7B visual geometry over level 7A.
In terms of their manifestation, they are progressive in nature and continuously self-complexify in settings with little or no visual input and disturbances. For example, darkness will cause the geometry to progressively intensify, but this can immediately be reset back down to base level by simply turning on a bright light or actively performing a physical task which requires any level of concentration.
Hallucinatory States
Ayahuasca and other forms of DMT produce a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than that of any other commonly used psychedelic. These effects include:
- External hallucinations
- Internal hallucinations - This particular effect commonly contains hallucinations with scenarios, landscapes, settings, concepts and autonomous entity contact. They are more common within dark environments and can be described as internal in their manifestation, lucid in believability, interactive in style and almost exclusively of religious, spiritual, mystical or a transcendental nature in their overall theme.
Auditory Effects:
The auditory effects of ayahuasca are extremely consistent in occurrence in comparison to that of LSD and psilocin and exhibit a full range of effects which commonly include:
- Enhancements
- Distortions
- Hallucinations
Health Effects, Potential Addiction and Tolerance:
Research has been made showing the relative physical safety of DMT.
Ayahuasca, has been studied by multidisciplinary groups in Brazil and other countries and it was shown that in reasonable doses in a careful context, it presents no negative cognitive/psychiatric/physical consequences.
In terms of mental health, the very same study showed that users presented elevated levels of happiness and health. Ayahuasca is not physically addictive, and many users experience a frequency self-regulating quality to the drug. This is despite the fact that the substance holds no real tolerance and can be used on a daily basis if it is desired.
As for the harmine or Syrian rue, it is only dangerous when taken in combination with other drugs and it is not necessary to follow a strict tyramine free diet, which is the case with harmaline. So although RIMAs are generally safer than MAOIs, they still have highly dangerous interactions when combined with almost any antidepressant or stimulant, common migraine medications, certain herbs, or even most cold medicines (including decongestants, antihistamines, and cough syrup) as it can cause potentially lethal serotonin syndrome or hypertensive crisis.
Legal Issues:
- Internationally, DMT is a Schedule I drug under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The Commentary on the Convention on Psychotropic Substances notes, however, that the plants containing it are not subject to international control.
- The legal status in the United States of DMT-containing plants is somewhat questionable. Ayahuasca plants and preparations are legal, as they contain no scheduled chemicals. However, brews made using DMT containing plants are illegal since DMT is a Schedule I drug.
- Religious use in Brazil was legalized after two official inquiries into the tea in the mid-1980s, concluded that ayahuasca is not a recreational drug and has valid spiritual uses.
- In France, as of 2005 almost every single DMT containing plant that could be used to make ayahusca is illegal.
DMT has been made illegal in almost every country. The common botanical sources for it, however, are still legal pretty much everywhere. You can even freely purchase DMT containing plants from specialized ethnobotanical shops on the internet. Harmine and harmaline, are also generally legal, including most of its ethnobotanically common plant sources. In Canada, however, harmaline is a Schedule lll drug.
Preparation Methods:
Ayahuasca can be prepared in a number of ways using a variety of different plant sources. For the DMT, the most commonly used ingredients are mimosa hostillis rootbark or acacia rootbark. The harmala alkaloids and inhibitors are usually found within syrian rue seeds or Banisteriopsis caapi leaves. All of these are legal to purchase within most countries and freely available through the use of google.
For the purposes of this article we have developed, linked and listed below 3 formal recipes for both traditional ayahuasca brews and practical modern day equivalents,
- Traditional Ayahuasca brew
- Pharmaceutical Ayahuasca
- Ayahuasca Sandwich
- Ayahuasca Milkshake
- Ayahuasca Cupcakes
Misconceptions:
There appears to be a general consensus among many online psychedelic communities that ayahuasca is simply too powerful for beginners and that even the most experienced of psychonauts should tread lightly. Some people even go as far as saying that you should not undergo the experience without the guidance of a practicing shaman and always within a traditional environment.
I would like to use this section of the article to express the opinion that these viewpoints are misinformed and at times, unnecessarily elitist. Providing the user can handle nausea or a purge free preparation method has been used, ayahuasca is the most perfect starter psychedelic in existence and not in any way more overwhelming than LSD or mushrooms. It can also be taken in any number of environments (no matter how shamanically inappropriate) but as with any psychedelic, it will only take you to its deepest points within silent darkness.

Conclusion:
Ayahuasca is by far my favourite psychedelic. It is extremely easy to make and offers a completely different, but amazing style of trip that needs to be taken much more seriously. If I had to choose a single substance for society to base its civilization around it would be ayahuasca, not LSD and certainly not alcohol.

The launch of a new website
My previous post specifically announced a period of inactivity due to the claim that “we are slowly putting together our biggest project yet”. Now after 162 individual articles and 4 months of extremely time consuming work I am excited to announce the launch of an entirely new, fully functional and community driven website under the domain name of www.encyclopediapsychonautica.org.
Since the very beginning, as this website has gradually progressed I have become increasingly aware that a tumblr blog is simply too self limiting of a host for a project of this size. Encyclopedia Psychonautica has therefore been created to serve as a wider reaching, legitimate version of disregardeverythingisay and the format of an open community driven wiki has been chosen so that the project can progress as quickly as possible and potentially become entirely self sufficient in its own momentum.
The website itself is still very much in progress but ultimately exists for the purpose of attempting to establish psychonautics as a legitimate field of science and to reach an understanding of the hallucinogenic experience through a formal documentation and analysis of the consistent subjective effects found within it. We have done this through the act of producing an extremely organized phenomenological breakdown and description of the individual effects and experiences found within a wide variety of differing methodologies in an extremely high level of detail. This has been done from a purely rational perspective which defines its own formalized procedure in a manner which does not depend on analogy, metaphors or mysticism to convey its definitions.
In a fashion that is similar to what I have been doing with DEIS for the past two years but with a more detailed, consistent and formalised writing style, the effects themselves are documented, organized and mapped out through the use of formal literary descriptions, terminologies and definitions which are organized into the separate articles below,
- Visual effects - Psychedelics
- Cognitive effects - Psychedelics
- Auditory effects - Psychedelics
- Physical effects - Psychedelics
- Subjective effects - Dissociatives
- Subjective effects - Deliriants
- Potential subjective effects index
Along side of these literary descriptions, relevant galleries of image examples are used where ever possible to further reproduce and convey specific categorized subjective effects. We have done this through the act of collecting and creating many image examples which have been catalogued and organized into the extensive hallucinogenic replication gallery which can be found here. This page serves the useful purpose of formally documenting experiences in a level of detail which descriptive language and written analysis could not possibly come close to by itself.
The information contained within the links above have then been used as standardized reference points for the ongoing project of documenting and describing the subjective effects of specific substances and hallucinogens within this extensive index here. This catalogue of specific substances currently documents 23 individual hallucinogens and includes a range of substances, plants and combinations which are organized into appropriate pharmacological and experiential categories. For this specific section of the website we have put careful consideration into providing accurate and comprehensive sets of information on not just the subjective effects but on the chemistry, pharmacology, studied therapeutic uses, lethal dosage, addiction potential, tolerance build up and legal issues with which the substance is associated with. This ensures that users can be fully informed in a way that intends to minimize danger, maximize safety and end the cultural taboos associated with personal hallucinogen usage by providing unbiased and scientifically accurate information.
In order to provide the information necessary to understand the basic physical processes involved within the consumption of these specific substances, we have included a comprehensive and relevant set of encyclopaedic pages which break down and describe the various methods of drug action, neurotransmitters, hormones, pharmacological classes and general neuroscience. These pages can be found within this index here and have been carefully written in a way that is both easy to understand for a novice whilst simultaneously remaining detailed and informative.
In addition to breaking down the subjective effects and physical neurological processes behind various specific substances we have also provided sets of instructional information regarding a large host of recipes, chemical extraction methods and growing techniques for the preparation of different hallucinogens. This can be found within our hallucinogen preparation section here and currently includes multiple DMT and LSA extractions along side of changa and ayahuasca recipes which are written in clear, easy to understand step by step instructions. This section will be expanded over the upcoming weeks to include a wider array of preparation methods and serves the purpose of making hallucinogens significantly easier to obtain and more accessible to the masses.
As an experiment which eventually hopes to draw genuine statistical data from user submitted experiences we have included a section dedicated to cataloguing a database of user submitted trip reports which provides a detailed and formal analysis in the form of a tagging system below each individual experience. This serves the purpose of providing the community with a greater understanding of its own personal experiences and allows us to confirm the presence of individual subjective effects within specific substances. At the present moment this database of experiences includes 40 individual experiences and can be found here.
The biggest and most exciting difference between DEIS and EP stems entirely from the way in which anybody can now easily contribute their own personal sets of knowledge, ideas, expertise and experiences to this newly emerging field of formalized psychonautics. The prospect of community collaboration and drawing data from the psychedelic community as a whole has been without a doubt, the biggest source of personal motivation for setting up a project of this scale. There are many ways in which others can help and these include,
- Submitting trip reports.
- Writing up breakdowns and descriptions of currently undocumented specific substances.
- Submitting extractions, recipes, growing techniques and preparation methods.
- Submitting collected or original hallucinogenic replications in the form of images, video or even audio.
- Submitting currently undocumented subjective hallucinogenic effects.
- Writing up new articles.
- Expanding upon and editing old articles.
- Following the community to-do list which can be found here.
- Bitcoin donations (1t5frxXujGz1reHrzNaAq4X3vrNM4c2NL) - any and all donations are greatly appreciated and go directly towards the financial upkeep of server maintenance, producing content and furthering the cause.
If you want to contribute but are unfamiliar with standard wiki formatting or do not feel that you possess the literary capabilities to develop your ideas or information in a comprehensive and legitimate manner, we have provided submission alternatives aside from writing the article up yourself. These include submitting your ideas and content to our community discussion subreddit found here, posting to the inbuilt discussion sections found within every article, talking with us in our live IRC chat room found here or simply emailing us at encyclopediapsychonautica@gmail.com. We strongly encourage you to contribute and even the smallest of submissions are sincerely appreciated. If we as a currently disorganized community of people are ever going to make a difference in terms of finally allowing humanity to benefit from what the hallucinogenic experience has to offer then we need to start collectively organizing and collaborating on a level which until this point, has been completely unheard of.
In terms of the short and long term future of both DEIS and EP, I have a huge multitude of elaborate yet necessary plans and general content that will need to be completed in order to progress the field of formalized psychonautics deeper into scientific legitimacy. For example, the creation of an automated piece of software which can generate accurate and statistical descriptions of any hallucinogen through the use of a complex questionnaire system will eventually be integrated into the website and has already been created in the form a manually operated prototype. Along side of this, I have plans for entirely new sections based on meditation and lucid dreaming as well as over 10 individual prewritten articles that will need to be posted to DEIS over the upcoming weeks. I am feeling more motivated and dedicated to this cause than ever before and strongly feel that we are stumbling upon a discovery of genuine historical significance and overwhelmingly profound implications.
Just to let you know, today is the 2nd year anniversary of DEIS. Thank you for reading and thank you for your support. I am extremely excited to work with all of you in the future and can say with confidence that this is only just the beginning of our projects potential.
A Comprehensive Analysis of Hallucinogen Induced States of Unity and Interconnectedness
I am writing this article to serve as a dedicated analysis and description regarding my current understanding towards what I consider to be the most profound and important freestanding component within the entirety of the hallucinogenic experience. In the past, I have already written about the experience of states of unity and interconnectedness within this article here. This piece of writing however makes the incorrect assumption that this state is exclusively associated with level 7B visual geometry. It was also written from a perspective which is extremely limited in comparison to the understanding which I have since built up over the past few months. However, it is extremely important for me to make it clear that I have not come even remotely close to fully grasping or even comprehending both the logic behind this experience and its many potential consequences.
This is a level of understanding which I do not expect to ever reach. Despite this however, I am determined to steadily progress what I have already learnt through a combination of constant analysis and in-depth discussions with an increasingly large amount of people who have undergone this component.
To begin with, I will describe the specific subjective experience and consistent effects of this component in as much detail as possible.
It starts with a change in perspective which is consistently interpreted as the lifting of a deeply embedded and all encompassing illusion. The destruction of this leads onto feelings that the tripper has undergone some sort of profound “awakening” or “enlightenment”.
This illusion feels as though it has always been in place, forcing a person’s perspective of the world into feeling as if their concept of “self” or “I” with which they identify themselves as, is assumed to intrinsically follow two fundamental rules. The first of these rules is that the self is inherently separate from the external environment and could not possibly extend into it. The second is that the self is specifically limited to not even the physical body as a whole, but exclusively a person’s ego or internal narrative and the image of their own personality as built up through social interactions with other people.
Once removed, the absence of this inbuilt illusion can lead onto two possible levels of cognitive intensities which both follow very consistent and interlocking themes.
The lower and more basic of these two levels can be referred to as external environment specific states of unity and interconnectedness. It can be described as a loss of perceived boundaries between the physical body and either the entirety of the external environment or specific things contained within it. This is felt to be the result of a person’s central sense of self becoming attributed to not just the internal narrative of the ego but in equal measure, to the human body in its entirety and the things around it which it is physically connected to through the senses. This creates the undeniable perspective that the external environment is no longer a separate world which the “I” is confronting and disconnected from, but a single unified system of behaviour. This experience provides the perspective that you are the external environment experiencing itself through the specific point within it that this body’s physical sensory awareness and conscious thought happens to reside in. This sensation is generally described by most people as “becoming one with the things around me”.
The most common and relatable examples of states of unity and interconnectedness, which are manifested as specific to the external environment, include but are certainly not limited to the following perspectives:
- Becoming one with a specific object which you are interacting with.
- Becoming one with a specific person which you interacting with.
(particularly common if engaging in sexual activities) - Becoming one with large crowds of people.
(particularly common at raves and music festivals) - Becoming one with immediately perceivable nature but not man kind.
- Becoming one with the immediate external environment as a whole.
The second and highest level of intensity for this component can be referred to as all encompassing states of unity and interconnectedness. It is at this point of intensity when the experience become infinitely more profound and limitless in its effects.
Once this level is reached, the external systems which a person’s central sense of self has become attributed to and one with is no longer limited to the immediately perceivable environment. Instead, it envelops and becomes attributed to the entirety of a person’s internally stored model of reality, existence and the universe as a whole.
This creates the sudden undeniable perspective that you are literally the entire universe experiencing itself, exploring itself and performing actions onto itself through the very specific point of space and time which your ego and conscious perception happens to reside in.
This is a feeling that when experienced, is immediately and universally understood to be an undeniable truth by anybody who undergoes it. It results in a number of profound consequences and changes in worldview or philosophical perspective which seem to follow fairly consistent themes across almost all people who experience this component. These include but are certainly not limited to:
- A new system of ethics which values the well being of the external as on par with the importance of the ego.
- The sensation that talking to others is the experience of engaging with another part of yourself.
- The sensation that the act of learning is the universe discovering itself and so extremely important this it is accompanied by pleasurable full body mind orgasms and frissons.
- The immediate interpretation of music, films and art as messages which are sent to you through the universe as a whole.
- A perspective which feels personally responsible for the entirety of histories human suffering, as well as every single human act of love and technological achievement which our species has committed onto itself.
- The obviousness of monogamy as a culturally bound tradition which stems from a combination of the ego’s sense of separateness from others and its deep psychological insecurities.
- A perspective which feels as if death can finally be accepted. This is because it is no longer felt to be the destruction of the self but simply the end of this specific point of conscious awareness which will continue to live on through everything else which it resides in.
This is a component which can either be felt as a temporary sensation that disappears as the tripper sobers up or it can become integrated into a new perspective of the world for weeks, months or years after the experience itself.
It is seemingly completely spontaneous in its rate of occurrence but seems to be particularly common during states of level 7B visual geometry when the tripper is by themselves. It also seems to occur when deep introspection results in the tripper truly resolving and coming to terms with each of their specific sets of insecurities in a way that has allowed them to become finally acceptant and content with who they are as a person.
In terms of the specific substances which are capable of inducing this component, the list currently confirms that it is possible within,
Psilocin, 4-AcO-DMT, DMT, LSD, MDMA, Ketamine, DXM and Salvia divinorum.
Similar notions of unity and the illusory nature of the self seem to be discussed heavily throughout a huge variety of religious, philosophical and psychological sources, which have been produced across both modern and ancient human history. Each of these exist independently from the experience of hallucinogenic substances. I have done my best to collect and list all of these below:
- The Buddhist phrase of anatta, which can be read about in detail here, specifically refers to the concept of “no-self”. This is the teaching that all things perceived by the senses (including the mental sense of thought) are not really “I” or “mine”, and for this reason one should not cling to them.
- Monism which can be read about in detail here, is a philosophical position which argues that there is only one thing, which all things are not separate from but working together within as a unified system of behaviour.
- The Hindu philosophy known as Nondualism can be read about in detail here. This is an idea which states that there is no difference between the concept of Brahman (the external environment) and Ātman (the self).
- The formally defined world view known as Interconnectedness, which can be read about in detail here, defines itself as the idea that all things are of a single underlying substance and reality, and that there is no true separation deeper than appearances.
- In psychology, egolessness, which can be read about in detail here, is an emotional state where one feels no ego (or self); of having no distinct being apart from the world around oneself. This is often described as feelings of oneness and being inextricably woven to the fabric of one’s surroundings or environment.
- In Freudian psychology, oceanic feeling which can be read about in detail here, is described as a sensation of an indissoluble bond, as of being connected with the external world in its integral form which is considered to be the source of religious energy. From this perspective, the feeling is referred to as an entirely subjective fact and is not an article of faith.
- The overview effect, which is described in detail within this documentary here, is a documented change in perspective experienced by astronauts who see the earth from above. It is described as perceiving the earth as a single unified system with which we are all a part of.
- Alan Watts, a famous philosopher spoke extensively about the illusory nature of the self. His lectures are extremely informative and can be found in full through torrents on the pirate bay and in parts within many videos across Youtube. His book “The book on the taboo of knowing who you are” is dedicated to a formal explanation of the philosophies and logic behind this perspective and can be found within the form of a free PDF here.
My personal interpretation or description of the themes within these philosophies (which may well be overly simplified or completely wrong) is that the individual and the universe cannot be logically defined as separate systems. This is because, to define a physical object of any sort in even the most basic level of detail, you must also provide an account of the way in which it physically interacts with and is completely dependent on its particular external environment. In turn, the external environment which the original object resides within cannot be fully defined without taking into account the surrounding systems which it is also contained within and so on outwards to encompass existence as a whole. This renders the self or any individual concept as something which can not logically be defined as a contained and separate system from the rest of the universe.
In the very same way that you cannot logically have up without down, left without right, something without nothing, light without dark or positive without negative. You cannot have self without other or each without all because the two concepts inter-depend and exclusively exist in an inseparable and unified relationship to each other.
This suggests to me that one is permitted to use terms such as “I”, “you”, and so on, not because they refer to an empirical and separate self, but simply because they are convenient linguistic tools for use in conversation which should not be considered as anything more than a symbolic approximation or measurement.
Regardless of the legitimacy of these theistic and philosophical perspectives which may be inherently delusional or false, feelings of becoming “one with universe” which are pervasive within human culture, is undoubtedly one of the most profoundly positive changes in perspective that a human being could possibly go through.
Assuming however that this is a rational and logically sound perspective, I am left with two alternate hypotheses in regards to why this illusion seems to be so deeply embedded into each and everyone of us.
The first of these is that it perhaps this illusion formed because it is an evolutionary advantage for the ego to feel intrinsically separate from and more significant than, the external environment as a means of ensuring the motivation for survival. This was my previous theory but upon further analysis has proven implausible. I do not see any physical route through which a drug that simply activates or deactivates receptors could change something that is hard wired into the very structure of the brain.
The second of these personal hypotheses is that the illusion of separateness does not stem from a hardware problem but a software problem. I personally believe that unity may well be the default evolutionary perspective through which human beings originally operated, but it has been suppressed through a purely cultural or more specifically, linguistic problem. This could potentially stem from the way that despite the many obvious benefits of language, it pays a price through completely reorganizing our perception of the world into a system of intrinsically separate labels that in reality, are merely glimpses of a unified whole. It’s an overcoming of this deeply embedded illusion that hallucinogens could theoretically rise above through the way in which they forcibly induce embedded and otherwise hidden states of mind that exist within the subconscious.
If myself and the psychedelic community as a whole dedicate themselves to coming to a total understanding of this important component, the potential consequences could have historical significance. Were the subtle environmental triggers to be accurately determined, it would be theoretically possible to consistently induce permanent and all encompassing states of unity and interconnectedness in a clinical setting. This would provide the entirety of the human species to a total freedom from our psychological, unnecessary and purely ego driven suffering which consumes our entire perspective of the world.
If you have had any experience with this component whatsoever please do report this in the comment section below and the drug which it occurred on. This provides myself and everybody else with extremely valuable data and would be greatly appreciated.
